Returning: NRL Footy Show

Peter "Sterlo" Sterling returns as a regular panellist to the NRL Footy Show in its 16th year.

Nine’s NRL Footy Show returns next week promising “new panellists, new segments and more entertainment than ever.”

Former regular Peter “Sterlo” Sterling returns as a panellist, joining Paul “Fatty” Vautin for his 16th year as host. Sterling was a presenter from 1994–2006.

The Footy Show’s jam-packed season premiere will feature dual international Wendell Sailor and the very much larger than life “Big Marn”, Darryl Brohman. Andrew “Vossy” Voss and Mario “The Falcon” Fenech will appear in eye-catching new roles. And madcap Tigers winger Beau Ryan returns to the streets of League-land with his quirky take on life.

Andrew Johns, the greatest player of the modern era, Phil Gould, one of the game’s great brains, and NRL legend Brad Fittler will also be part of The Footy Show team in 2010.

Star players including Benji Marshall, Nathan Hindmarsh, Daniel Mortimer, Scott Prince, Luke Patten and Jarryd Hayne will be joining the panel throughout the season to talk rugby league.

And all those regular segments the fans love are returning, like League of Their Own, Fatty’s Facebook, and Around the Grounds. As well as top-shelf entertainment from A-list comedians and music acts.

It airs Thursdays from March 11 at 9.30pm in Sydney and Brisbane.

(11.30pm VIC/SA/WA, 10.30pm NT)

  1. Andrew Johns was a panelist on the Footy Show tonight for the first time since his racist remarks. I immediately turned the TV off. Is Channel 9 condoning racism by employing him? His brother is just as bad! They should be put in the pedestal not on it!

  2. Warren put a little smile on my face, would be easy do such as he and say the obvious regarding his “Issues” but I think the average league supporter would be quiet chuffed to know he supports AFL.

  3. The most pathetic show full of try hards and personality -less neanderthals, where there have never been any laugths. What an insult to quality Australian productions that this mess has been allowed to go for 16 years just because channel nine is contracturally obliged due to airing the nrl.
The most boring, softest sport directed at low iq imbeciles (including those who play it) because superior games like Aussie Rules and Union are too complex and require thought process to understand the rules and tactics. Simpletons, that, exist on single cells. = nrl fans.
Our only hope is for nrl rights to be lost to nine because then I bet this show will be axed within a minute of that decision.

  4. Gil, and Ray Hadley! I wouldn’t be surprised if Sevens show led straight into the Footy Show. 8:30-9:30. I’m pretty happy with having another NRL show on TV, the more NRL on TV the better. Between these two shows and all the programming FoxSports does, its great for NRL fans.

  5. So how will Seven place thier competition against Nine for this?

    My guess

7:30: The Matthew Johns Footy Show
    9:00: Cougar Town
9:30: How I Met your Mother

I think Seven is looking to rip the throat of 18-39 out of Nine League followers, this may do the trick

  6. It’s great that Peter Sterling is returning to the show as a panelist, as he has the right mix of knowledge and humour. I do have to ask what is with the overkill of using Parramatta players Hayne, Hindmarsh and Mortimer as star player guest panelists ? Surely there were players from other clubs that could have been enlisted. The Footy Show needs to focus on the game of Rugby League, too much time has been spent in recent years trying to be a poor mans Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

  7. A lot of the people in the media that have pushed the line that the Footy Show is about to be axed are people with axes to grind themselves. I’m not really sure what people expect out of the show, sometimes its good, sometimes its bad, but at the end of the day it has never been put up as the greatest show anyway, people should take it as it comes. I always find the Footy Show is at its best when they get Phil Gould on there and they look at issues surrounding the game in serious discussions.

  8. Sorry to say i haven’t watched much of the show for the last few years.Grew out of it i guess. But it’s not a bad achievment that it has been going for 16 years considering how many times it has been close to the axe.Personally i have no time for Voss or Gould,so that’s my main reason for avoiding the show. For me they bring the show down.I enjoyed the lightheartedness of years gone by with classic Fatty,Sterlo,Mario (what’s doin?) & of course Reg & segments such as “Their House”.My Footy Show days may be over, but a big congrats to Fatty for holding the show together for so long, for no matter what critics say about him…it is him that has held the show together all these years.Cheers Fatty.
