Returning: Robin Hood

Stand and deliver. The third and final season of the BBC's Robin Hood is finally coming to television.

The third season of the BBC’s Robin Hood is finally coming to television, set to air on ABC2.

This series introduces new characters including Joanne Froggatt as Kate a Locksley villager, Lara Pulver as Isabella sister of Guy of Gisborne, David Harewood as Friar Tuck and Toby Stephens as Prince John, and Clive Standen as Archer, Robin’s half brother.

This is the final series of the franchise. Despite talk that writer Sally Wainwright had been asked to work on ideas for a fourth season it was subsequently cancelled.

The outlaws return from the Holy Land and are thrown into disarray when Robin (Jonas Armstrong) announces he is breaking up the gang. All he wants is to avenge Marian’s death. Robin races to Locksley Manor, alone, to confront Gisborne (Richard Armitage), and an epic battle commences. The Outlaws arrive as Gisborne throws Robin into the river, far below.

Sir Jasper arrives at the castle with a message from Prince John. He blames the Sheriff for the bungled assassination and demands 1,000 crowns a month and the body of Robin Hood, just as Gisborne enters to announce he has killed Hood.

Tuck (David Harewood), a travelling monk, saves Robin from the river. Robin tries to leave, but Tuck knocks him out and ties him up, determined that Robin must rest. Tuck tells him that Robin Hood is the only hope that the people of England have left.

Tuck shows Robin how much the people need him, but all Robin cares about is revenge – even if it means getting killed in the process.

Tuck needs a new plan. He decides he needs to take drastic action and risk everything. So he tells Gisborne that Hood’s body is buried at Dead Man’s Crossing, but also tells the Outlaws that Robin is alive and wants to meet them at the same place. Tuck watches, secretly, as the Outlaws are captured by Gisborne.

Robin realises he must return to being Robin Hood to save his men. Luckily, Tuck has a master plan to do so. With the help of Tuck and an eclipse, Robin saves his men. He then confronts Gisborne, but, instead of killing him, Robin realises it would be a far worse punishment to leave him living in Hell.

It airs 7:30pm Saturday May 1st on ABC2.

  1. Jonas Armstrong is the best Robin Hood to date. I really love this series and missed the original run on the ABC but im watching the reruns on UKTV on Foxtel. Great to watch in HD also due to the beautiful filming locations.
Its a shame its not on ABCHD,so we will have watch Series 3 in Standard Def, but i guess UKTV will play it in HD when the ABC are done with it. Thanks ABC and UKTV.

  2. This series premiered over a year ago on the BBC. We did the ABC take so long in airing series 3?
By the way, the main reason there is no series 4 is because Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood) was to leave the show after series 3.

  3. This sucks! Why is it on ABC2? Didn’t it rate well enough before on the real ABC? Maybe it’s terrible but I find that hard to believe. The first two were brilliant. except the last few eps which were just silly.

No, I don’t have a stupid set top box. This is very annoying. I’ve been waiting for this latest season to come here, and now this.

  4. I just realized this replaces Monk, I mean what was the point of bringing back the show just to remove it a few weeks later.

I just realized all the first run shows they have on after Letterman, Saving Grace (Mon), Army Wivers (Tue), The Shield (Wed), and Friday Night Lights (Fri)

Maybe they need to have some shows at 1am like Monk and Supernatural?

  5. Well, at least it is on a Saturday night,so those of us who can’t record the digital stations and who work at nights, can still watch this fabulous show it sure took its time in coming!

  6. Well there you go.

Only a few days after I asked where it was it’s finally arrived!

Better late than never and will be interesting to see how the Series ended.

Methinks it was held off to capitalise on the forthcoming Robin Hood film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe??

  7. Without Marian I’m not sure the 3rd season is as good as the first two, still sad to see it cancelled, if it was in the US they probably would have pushed on into S4 and totally screws the franchise!
