Volcanic ash bails up network execs

Cancelled! Volcanic ash has now wreaked havoc to the travel plans of some Australian TV executives and producers.

Ash from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland has now wreaked havoc to the travel plans of some Australian TV executives and producers.

Most network execs were at MIPTV in Nice, France, looking at new television shows to buy up.

TV Tonight understands execs from Seven and Nine managed to get out on Wednesday ahead of the ash from the volcano which erupted on Tuesday.

But some who stayed on in Europe weren’t quite so lucky.

TEN Programming chief David Mott is currently stranded in London. So too is Foxtel’s Director of Television, Brian Walsh.

Also stuck in Europe are TEN’s Beverley McGarvey, producer Nick Murray, Richard Samuels head of FOX Australia, FremantleMedia Enterprise’s Paul Ridley and Daryl O’Connor plus several execs from SBS and BBC.

Other execs in Nice have hired cars to get themselves to bigger cities in the interim.

So far there is no word on when the ash will clear so that flights can resume.

Hope those hotels have cable TV guys!

  1. What a pity the guys from Nine and Seven got out. In my dreams I see the whole executive team responsible for Underbelly being pushed into the caldera of that Icelandic volcano! Followed by those behind Master Chef, Big Brother, Australia’s Got Talent, Hey Hey It’s Saturday and many other examples of network insults to our intelligence.

Sadly it remains just a dream.
