OzTAM celebrated its tenth birthday with an industry bash last night at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

OzTAM celebrated its tenth birthday with an industry bash last night at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Guests included research staff from all networks both Free to Air and subscription TV but none of the CEOs from Seven, Nine or TEN, the networks which own the body. Instead they were represented by staff including Nine’s network sales director Peter Wilshire, Seven’s corporate development director Simon Francis, TEN’s head of news Jim Carroll.

Also attending were Free TV’s Julie Flynn and ASTRA’ s Petra Buchanan, Sky News Australia’s Angelos Frangopoulos, TV1’s Peter Hudson and XYZnetwork’ s Bruce Mann. Researchers and media agencies were also in attendance.

OzTAM chairman and Nine representative on the OzTAM board, Steve Weaver, reminded guests OzTAM measures around 100 channels are measured every minute of the day across every possible demographic.

Chief executive Kate Inglis-Clarke spoke about the innovations in the past 10 years, including the measurement of time shift viewing overnight. It is next looking to measure catch-up viewing on different devices.

OzTAM was introduced in 2000 with its People Meters to supercede the diary ratings system by Nielsen.

  1. Maybe they can put the a daily rating sheet on there website instead of whacking out the results once a week. Looking at the website only listing the top 20 most watched shows of the previous week is a bit dated (now in these fast-tracking and forum times) when I come to this website each day and see the previous night rating mid morning and see what the top 30 rating shows+other shows were.
