Lifesaver Kobi Graham underwent surgery at Royal North Shore on Monday after breaking his neck while surfing at Cape Solander in Botany Bay.

Bondi Rescue lifesaver Kobi Graham underwent surgery at Royal North Shore on Monday afternoon after breaking his neck in a wipeout while surfing at Cape Solander in Botany Bay.

He crashed head-first on the reef, cracking two vertebrae in his neck. There were concerns he wouldn’t walk again but it’s understood he is expected to make a full recovery.

Out of action for 6 months, Graham is said to have been offered $20,000 by Woman’s Day but no official deal has been done, according to the Daily Telegraph.

CoastalWatch.com editor Ben Horvath said Sunday was one of the biggest days of surf in Sydney all year.

“Kobi took off on a slabbing six to eight feet bomb and kind of nose dived, free falling head first into the reef,” he wrot..

“Fellow Bronte surfer and good friend John ‘Bones’ Dwyer helped Kobi onto a sled and then coastalwatch photographer Billy Morris drove them around to Kurnell beach on a jet ski and promptly called an ambulance.

“Kobi is a well-respected big wave charger. The entire Sydney surfing community and all his colleagues in the surf lifesaving fraternity wish him a speedy recovery.”

  1. That’s great news that he’ll make a full recovery, it could have been so much worse. 6 months is absolutely nothing, in terms of recovery time.
