Melina Kanakaredes, who has played Detective Stella Bonasera on CSI: New York since 2004, has quit the show.
“We hoped Melina would return to CSI: NY for another season, but we respect her decision to move on,” said a CBS statement.
“Her amazing talent and invaluable contribution to the success of the series are greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. She will forever remain a friend to the network and studio and we wish her the very best.”
“I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY,” Kanakaredes added in a statement, “and I will treasure them forever!”
Former Once and Again actress Sela Ward is being considered as a replacement.

I love her. Good Luck to her.
The show won’t be the same without her.
But … I do like Sela Ward … so good luck to her too 🙂
According to one report I read, it’s all about cost-cutting. CBS asked Melina to take a pay cut on a new contract and she politely declined. They don’t know what they are losing!
Its a huge lose to the show as she was great in it. But when is ch9 ever going to show the remaining of season 5 and all of season 6 as it finished in the US in May this year. Why is ch9 sooooooo slow.
Also just heard Sela Ward is replacing Melina as of the first episode of season 7 which starts in the US in September. Good luck to her.
According to Nikki Finke, Sela Ward is confirmed to replace Melina.
Melina is about the only reason to watch the show IMO 😀
