Melina Kanakaredes quits CSI: NY

Melina Kanakaredes, who has played Detective Stella Bonasera on CSI: New York since 2004, has quit the show.

Melina Kanakaredes, who has played Detective Stella Bonasera on CSI: New York since 2004, has quit the show.

“We hoped Melina would return to CSI: NY for another season, but we respect her decision to move on,” said a CBS statement.

“Her amazing talent and invaluable contribution to the success of the series are greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. She will forever remain a friend to the network and studio and we wish her the very best.”

“I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY,” Kanakaredes added in a statement, “and I will treasure them forever!”

Former Once and Again actress Sela Ward is being considered as a replacement.

  1. According to one report I read, it’s all about cost-cutting. CBS asked Melina to take a pay cut on a new contract and she politely declined. They don’t know what they are losing!

  2. Its a huge lose to the show as she was great in it. But when is ch9 ever going to show the remaining of season 5 and all of season 6 as it finished in the US in May this year. Why is ch9 sooooooo slow.

    Also just heard Sela Ward is replacing Melina as of the first episode of season 7 which starts in the US in September. Good luck to her.
