SBS Indigenous TV Mentorship Award Winner announced

A documentary and drama short filmmaker will make the transition to TV thanks to the SBS Indigenous TV Mentorship Award.

Writer / Director Darlene Johnson has won the second annual SBS Indigenous TV Mentorship Award.

Johnson has a background in documentary and drama short films but says she will “relish the opportunity to receive mentorship in making the transition to television, ideally writing and directing Australian stories for Television – stories that reflect our cultural identities but have international appeal”.

The SBS Indigenous TV Mentorship Award includes travel to local and international festivals, conferences or markets; mentorship from experienced SBS television executives; and three hours of free legal advice from an SBS Lawyer. In addition, she will be exposed to influential industry contacts.

SBS Managing Director, Shaun Brown, said the award was testament to SBS’ ongoing commitment to fostering Indigenous talent and dedication to telling more Indigenous stories on SBS.
