TEN mid year ratings

TEN has now released a mid-year ratings report claiming some victories. But then there is the fine print...

TEN has now released a mid-year ratings report, following Seven and Nine releasing theirs two weeks ago.

TEN’s report, which it released at the halfway point of the ratings year, rather than the calendar year, claims wins in 16-39, 18-49 and Daytime programming. However, there is some fine print…

The demographic wins are based on 6pm -10:30pm, are only for primary channels and only for commercial networks. It says more about what is left out than what is left in. It overlooks 6pm – midnight, ABC, SBS and digital channels.

TEN did include demographic results for 6pm – midnight elsewhere in its release (which saw it lose the 18-49s to Nine) but again only for commercial networks. The only time it included ABC and SBS and multichannels were for a Total People split 6pm-10:30pm.

The news is better in Daytime programming where TEN leads in Total People plus demographics, including 25-54s from 9am – 6pm weekdays.

TEN’s chief programming officer, David Mott says, “At the half way point of the survey year, TEN is Australia’s No. 1 prime-time destination for people under 50. Our decision to fine-tune the schedule has consolidated TEN’s position as the leading network in 18-49, 16-39 and daytime. We shook up Sunday nights with a fresh new entertainment line-up. We also took the bold step of starting our stripped weeknight ‘big event’ TV line-up in the later 7:30 pm timeslot.

He added: “Our resolve to get the 7 o’clock timeslot right has paid off. In just under 12 months, The 7pm Project has cemented itself firmly within our weeknight schedule, consistently winning its timeslot in 16-39 and regularly out-performing the competition in 18-49 and 25-54. We are delighted with the program as an integral fixture in our weekday schedule.”

The Australian today reports Seven has just edged in front of Nine in Total People thanks to Packed to the Rafters at the midway point of the year.

  1. I don’t know why ten do that but it’s time they got with the times and added all channels including digital in not just half results but daily! basically is misleading info, trick of the trade. Not!

  2. @ Earthquake, yeah all events are anti-siphoned on the list so that means ONE will be the same as TEN, i would be expecting wall-to-wall coverage he way they are promoting it.

  3. The 18- 49 year old audience is still waiting for the new Melrose Place and 90210 (3 seasons) and a second (last) season of Pussycat Dolls Present: !

  4. Just wondering David, do you have any information regarding the hosts, or indeed the timeslots that the Commonwealth Games will take up on Ten. Will it be wall to wall or will it be restricted to highlights in the evening?

Also, is the coverage restricted by the anti-siphoning legislation that everything needs to be shown on the main channel or will most of the coverage be on One? Ta!
