Luke Jacobz is new X Factor host

Updated: Home and Away actor and former Popstars host Luke Jacobz is the new host of The X Factor while editors excise footage of Matt Newton.

Actor and personality Luke Jacobz is the new host of Seven’s The X Factor.

He was announced as replacement host on Today Tonight this evening.

It is the second time Jacobz has hosted a talent show, having fronted Popstars for Seven in 2004.

He has also been a regular on Home and Away since 2008 and was a cast member on McLeod’s Daughters from 2005 -2009. He also won Dancing with the Stars in 2008.

Jacobz, whose ‘nice guy’ image contrasts with that of Newton, said he got a surprise call from Channel Seven late last night asking him to think about taking on the hosting role.

A surprised Jacobz said of Newton, “I wish him all the best and hope I am going to do as good a job as he was going to do.”

Updated: The Australian reports that FremantleMedia began editing Newton out of footage at midnight on Sunday and will continue all week.

The show premieres next Monday.

  1. I’m a Seven fan but not a fan of this guy. He was bad on Popstars and considering this is the X Factor he doesnt have it. Poor choice Seven. He would have been more suited to the Amazing Race then this. However looking at who else is there i cant say there is anyone else really so i guess he will have to do.

The show has huge promise as i have been to one of the shows already and there was some really good talent and Newton was actually great as host. A lot of people here are knocking him but did you see him in action? I was actually a sceptic on him but he was great. Wont eventuate now obviously.

  2. I think he is a better choice that Matthew, although im not to sure if it was wise with how well popstars live went, i didnt think he was too bad, it was more the format and all the changes they had.

Im actually really excited about this starting, The X Factor UK is my fav show on TV and glad its just started. I just hope this is going to be close to what thats like, I know its not going to be as good, just hopefully close.

  3. I expect the reason they didn’t choose Daniel Macpherson was to move as far away from any association with the failed Ten version as possible.

On the topic of Luke Jacobs though, he wouldn’t have been my first choice but they could have done worse (Mel/Kochie? Grant Denyer? Tom Williams? Dare I say Jackie O or Tamara Jaber?). Also, I was not a fan of Newton in the first place.

  4. Not this guy! He was probably the worst thing about Popstars Live and it’s Noe only going to bring back de ja vu all over again!
He had the constant giggles on that show and is hosting was just bad. Such a bummer 7 feels like re-living that mess.

  5. As far as hosting skills I’ve got no clue but he’s 10x better than Newton.

When they announced the incredible mentor panel I was hugely impressed but then Newton was so misplaced.

They might not know it but they caught a great break here. I’m curious whether this is like when Idol fired Sandilands but had to still pay him his $700,000 despite the media hearing he wasn’t paid. Or whether this will breach contract and he won’t be paid.

Even if Jacobz is a boring host his image is what counts more in this case.

  6. You forgot to mention he was one of the 5 hosts on The Big Arvo between 2001-2005! I reckon that’s where he shines… truly. Cant stand him “acting”, he’s better as a presenter.

  7. I hate this guy I hated him on h&a and popstars why channel 7 u will ruin this show bringing this guy in, 22million bucks 4 this show and they get a rubbish host, why

  8. I cannot believe 7 would be so stupid!!!!!!!! He was terrible on Popstars Live!!!!!!! I guess that was a long time ago though so I shall give him the benefit of the doubt… begrudgingly….
