The Bill finale in October

Long-running UK cop drama The Bill will end in Australia with a two part finale in October.

The Bill will end in Australia with a two part finale revolving around the story of a teenage girl involved in the murder of a 14-year-old suspected gang member on October 16.

A farewell special is set to air on October 23 on ABC1.

The final scenes, which were shot in June, will be shown in the UK on ITV1 on Tuesday, August 31.

“The series will conclude this summer with a compelling contemporary story that tests our cops on the streets of London both physically and emotionally for one final time. It’s called ‘Respect’ and we hope it will respect the heritage of the show,” executive producer Johnathan Young said.

The Bill’s history in numbers:

2,400 – The number of episodes of the show up to and including the final two.

168 – The number of regular cast members who passed through the doors of Sun Hill.

1,210 – The number of episodes the show’s longest serving cast member, Graham Cole, who played PC Tony Stamp, appeared in.

30 – The number of police officers who have died in the show. There were 27 murders and three suicides.

3 – The amount of times Sun Hill station has been blown up.

  1. I grew up with this show – has always been there. Sad to see it go even though I haven’t watched regularly in years – was good to drop in and out but it never regained it’s peak which for me was around 1995-2000.

They should use the classic 90’s theme for the credits in the finale ep.

Is the farewell special basically a retrospective clip show?

  2. Love watching The Bill on UKTV during the week days — very close to the ‘Beech scandal’ where a lot of the classic cast was cleaned out, and the show gradually declined from then on. Worst decision made by the producers.

@Nathan. Unforunately, Magna Pacific who manufactured and distributed The Bill DVD box sets went out of business, and hence there have been no more new releases for a few years.Unless Village Roadshow (who picked up the rights) decides to continue on from where Magna Pacific left off (unlikely), there won’t be any more…which means collectors may have to turn to the UK editions.

  3. I wish they would release more of the episodes on DVD, we got some of the early years. But then they stopped. I wonder if the ABC would consider starting the whole thing or do a best of, get the viewers to vote for episodes they want to see again.

  4. I thought The Bill over the past year has been great.

Whilst I agree some of the stories have been much harder hitting than in previous years – it’s gone back to what it used to be at the very start.

It’ll be sad to see it go but as in everything in life things change.

But I’m sure the show will be remembered for many years to come.

  5. I watched from the beginning.
And over the years it went thru good and really bad.
But … I’m so sad to see it all end 🙁
It should’ve been one that kept going!

  6. I imagine once it’s all over ABC will either just start right from the beginning or just have a test pattern at 8:30 Saturdays from now on

  7. It’s sad. I grew up with this show, but after it went soap it never clawed back. I’ve been watching the early series recently and it’s lost what it was famous for:

Gritty storylines. Gripping drama. Great characters and acting. The doco style of shooting with little shots and a fast moving pace.

    RIP old bummed.
