Layne Beachley will present a new factual series for ONE HD at Manly Surf School.

Layne Beachley will present a new factual series for ONE HD which follows Matt Grainger and his team of instructors at Manly Surf School.

Produced by 5 Oceans Media the 10 part series, features a myriad of people that descend on Manly Beach for surf lessons.

The series is shot in high definition technology and on-board surf cameras.

Manly is the home to seven times World Surfing Champion Layne Beachley, who will across ten weeks introduce viewers to an exceptional group of people who have been touched by their Manly Surf experience.

Just some of the inspirational people viewers get to meet include: a Navy diver who braves the ocean after losing a hand and part of his leg in a shark attack; the Sydney Swans players who trade the ball for a board; an 80 year old grandmother who takes her first surfing lesson; and a blind man who possesses an intense desire to surf again having not seen the ocean for 15 years.

Layne also introduces audiences to a group of indigenous children from the outback who have never seen the ocean before, as well as a group of disadvantaged youth from Sydney’s King Cross. The Manly Surf team make a huge difference to their lives and provide an experience that they will cherish forever.

It’s all in a day’s work for Matt Grainger and instructors Nick, Zahn, Dave, Rob, Mike, Ellis, Dani and Tessa who face all sorts of challenges which are captured in every episode.

Regarded as history’s best female surfer, Layne Beachley said: “As a fun loving teenager, the surf at Manly Beach won my heart. Now I get to share in the excitement of teaching people how to surf on a regular basis.”

“Matt and the Manly Surf School instructors absolutely love surfing; each and every day they teach it with such enthusiasm to all sorts of people from all walks of life.”

“Manly Surf will open your eyes to a sport that is not only my passion but something which inspires and transforms people’s live for the better,” Layne said.

It will premiere on Wednesday, October 20 at 8.00pm.

  1. This is lame. I surf, i like Lane but honestly how much mileage can you get from a surf school? Ok, its too big for learners so they film the instructors in the big stuff… Only so many times you can do that before it becomes old.

A behind the scenes doco series on board riders clubs hosted by Lane would have been genuinely interesting…..

  2. I agree, this is excellent – and exacttly the type of content One needs.
I’d imagine this will rate pretty well and with stunning Manly as setting well see well overseas – so they can make their investment back.

    Awesome stuff One

  3. Another first run local program on Ten’s digital channels – Ten is really showing 7Two and GO! how to program first run content on its digital channels and not use them as a dumping ground for unsuccessful content. Already on ONE there is Thursday Night Live, One Week at a Time and a bunch of other locally produced first run shows made specifically for the digital channel – Eleven is shaping up to be the same with Neighbours moving over and the Eleven out of Ten initiative with the SPAA. Good work Ten!

  4. This is the type of programming I believe ONE need to invest in; they can’t fill primetime up with premiere sports hence why not many people actually watch ONE. If ONE start producing sports based / adventure based series that can fill the voids in the time of the year where sport isn’t all the rage I think we would see a much more successful channel.

This is an excellent start I believe.
