Judith Lucy begins Spiritual Journey

Comedian Judith Lucy retraces her path from devoutly religious child to determined young atheist for the ABC.

Comedian Judith Lucy has begun production on her new six-part series, Judith Lucy’s Spiritual Journey.

It will follow Lucy’s personal path from devoutly religious child to determined young atheist to an adult searching for something to believe in. The series will be produced by Todd Abbott and directed by Brendan Fletcher and  Tony Martin.

As previously reported, the series recently received funding from Film Victoria.

ABC TV Head of Arts and Entertainment Amanda Duthie says “Judith Lucy is one of Australia’s iconic comedians. Her unique style resonates with people of all ages. We are absolutely thrilled to be sharing her spiritual quest with our audience”

Judith Lucy adds, “I’ve reached a point in my career where people still recognise me, they just no longer know why or how. Recently someone asked me if I worked in an egg factory. So yes, I’m very excited about doing a show on the ABC.”

It will air on ABC1 in 2011.

  1. I came in here expecting a bunch of comments complaining about how annoying Judith Lucy is. How odd.

I’ve never found her all that amusing, but didn’t share the hatred I see elsewhere. I didn’t know she had fans though.

  2. Seen the light?

Seems to me Judith has realised the irreconcilability of the human condition; that our flesh/mind dilemma and the terror of mortality can only be repressed for so long, before a need for greater meaning requires a Kierkegaardian leap into the unknowable.

  3. Judith is one of the most fascinating comedic talents in this country. She is so complex and talented. Most intriguing idea – something to look forward to in 2011.
