Returning: The Librarians

Frances O’Brien, the woman who has turned the upward inflection into something of an art form, returns for a new season of The Librarians.

Frances O’Brien, the woman who has turned the upward inflection into something of an art form, returns for a new season of The Librarians next month.

Joining her for Season Three are Heidi Arena, Stephen Ballantyne, Wayne Hope, Nicole Nabout, Lachy Hulme, Fiona Harris, Keith Brockett, Roz Hammond, Victoria Eagger and Angus Sampson.

Frances is devastated when she learns that her mother, Pearl (Victoria Eagger), suffering from both dementia and a really horrible personality, needs full time care. But to make matters worse, a government bureaucrat Xavier Fisher (Angus Sampson) rules that public libraries are to turn a profit or face closure.

With a million dollars to raise, Frances appoints Dawn (Heidi Arena) to head up the fundraising campaign. But getting the rest of the Middleton Interactive Learning Centre staff motivated isn’t easy. Matthew (Stephen Ballantyne) is pursuing a book deal; Nada (Nicole Nabout) is fighting off advances from her ex-husband Hasan (Lachy Hulme), Neil has a new girlfriend Jane (Fiona Harris), and Ky (Keith Brockett) is busy planning his wedding day.

On the home front, Terry (Wayne Hope) tells Frances he’s reforming his 80s tribute band Oils Ain’t Oils. If that’s not enough to send Frances over the edge, she learns that her detestable mum Pearl (Victoria Eagger) has run up an unimaginable debt and ends up on the O’Brien’s doorstep.

It premieres 8:30pm Wednesday October 13th on ABC1.

  1. @Abe, the beeping is an interstitial sound effect used throughout the program to segue from one scene to another. It’s the sound the book scanner equipment makes when people are checking books out of the library.
