This is Your Life takes to the stage

With new host Eddie McGuire, This is Your Life will become a grander, showbiz event, filmed at Crown's Palms showroom.

Last week Eddie McGuire conceded to TV Tonight that This is Your Life was one of his projects for 2011.

“I’m sure the dashing, intelligent, good-looking, erudite, suave, sophisticated host they choose will do a good job, whoever that may be,” he joked.

“I think they’re looking for the host to be undercover a little bit so they can do a few stings without it being given away.”

Today the Herald Sun reports the show will be given a grander makeover, to be filmed concert-style at Crown Palms showroom and will feature big-name musical acts.

Executive producer Adrian Dellevergin said: “We’re taking a much-loved format out of the studio setting and turning it into event television.”

This is also due in part to Nine losing its current studio space next year.

Talk of using Nine making use of the The Palms for filming was floated here last April.

“This Is Your Life is one of the all-time great television shows,” McGuire said. “There are so many wonderful stories to be told, particularly with prominent Australians on the world stage right now.”

The show last aired on Nine with host Mike Munro, before he switched to Seven.

    Like the show….but will not watch if that person is hosting it…..really do not like his style…sorry.

    Apart from This is Your Life, Hotseat and the National IQ Test, Eddie has also been the host of The AFL Footy Show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, 1 vs. 100, The Logie Awards, New Years Eve celebrations and countless of specials and fill-in duties for Nine on everything from A Current Affair to the Olympics. How about they try out some new talent?

    There are many programs still on air simply because they are popular in Melbourne. It doesn’t seem to register with TV executives that these shows aren’t popular elsewhere. eg Rush.

  10. The trouble with Eddie doing such a show, is that he tries soooooo hard to be the centre of attention on anything he does. This show should be about the person in question, not Eddie – as usual he will jostle with them for attention. Perhaps an unknown would be much better. Also when will 9 understand he may be popular in Melbourne but the rest of us are extremely underwhelmed!! DandDans obviously missed the recent joke – IQ test!

  11. Haven’t they already minded the filed of celebrities? Wouldn’t it be better to wait a few more years?

    Making it an ‘event’ replete with singers and bands isn’t good either – isn’t the whole show meant to be about the subject and not musical acts?

    The last few This Is Your Life episodes weren’t big raters – why will this one be any different?

  14. Eddie, yuck. Just another show where he gets to listen to himself talk. If i had to guess at the guests i’d say Mick Malthouse, Shane Warne, Kerri Anne Kennerly. It’s just going to be a channel 9/collingwood love fest.

  15. where has this sudden variety outbreak come from on 9? Top gear Australia, HeyHey, Warnie, Live from Planet Earth.

    its not a genre that has shown much support from viewers this year. there have been a lot of variety shows flop.
