Biggest Loser will not be stripped

Season six of TEN's Reality series will undergo a programming change with a tighter, more compact season.

TEN is pumped about its newest version of The Biggest Loser: Families, being produced by Shine Australia. The network is delighted with the episodes that have been delivered so far.

Hosted once more by Hayley Lewis, the series is no longer under the watch of FremantleMedia Australia (although Shine execs are former Freo execs).

Promotions on air feature the four families that will comprise the series this year, which is due to launch shortly.

TV Tonight understands as part of the changes for the sixth season the Reality series will no longer be stripped five nights a week. Look out for a tighter, more compact season this year -and it’s probably high time too.

TEN’s network schedule now has several strong titles to take the place of the show, which was stripped at 7:30pm last year.

  1. They almost killed it stripping it like they did, good decision. This season could buck the trend as it’s been advertised well and the differences, especially with the trainers having to live a week with the families should attract passing viewers.

  2. I like the look of the promo’s, but wasn’t going to watch as the format is so dragged out (i.e. showing it every night), but if they bring it back to one or two nights i’ll give it another go.

  3. Can i be the devil’s advocate (pardon the poor pun) and respectfully disagree with Tasmanian devil’s interpretation of stripping. I thought it meant the same slot each night – from memory – on the Sunday night Biggest Loser would either start at 6,30 or 7.30 – so technically it Was stripped 5 nights a week (at 7pm) and then a different one hour/two hour slot on the Sunday.

  4. looks like the format will not have any eliminations, and hence no immunity challenges, how are they even going to drag it out over 4 nights?

and whats going on with ten? mid Jan and they are not advertising many of their shows, 7 and 9 have been advertising enough shows to almost fill their schedule for over a month. i’ve only seen hawaii, blue, and loser.

  5. “the Reality series will no longer be stripped five nights a week”

Being a pedant here, but it never was stripped five nights a week. It’s always been stripped six nights a week. 😉

  6. Finally less. I hope the last season too (unless changes are made).

Also, I’m not saying this as a ‘hater’, I really used to like the show but soon after Shannan and Michelle came on, I wasn’t a fan of the changes they made. I much prefer Bob and Jillian and the work they do on the US version. I wish they were still a part of the Australian version.

  7. Im actually looking foward to this season. Hayley is a really good host and the sneak peaks look interesting with the trainers having to live with the families and eat what they eat.

Poor Tiffany though I think that bowl of pasta that she has to eat with the cream & sour cream is as big as her. I would be so scared to have the commando live with me for a week. But it will be good to see the trainers get revenge and flog the families in training.

  8. Cou;dn’t they just have one 2 hour show a week, that way they actually have Variety, it really is frustrating giving the same bland show six 1 hour shows a week, and then airring a special episode 4 of those 6 nights a week, on top of the already mundane first six shows, seems like a waste of timeslots seeing as TEN has never been able to hold down a reality show that finishes on time, or hell, even within 5 minutes of the scheduled time.

  9. @Ryan agreed i also like that fact that it is on everyday like masterchef was it gives me something to watch every night and yes they have so much footage why not use it it ofcourse i will still watch it no matter how many times a week it is on but i would prefer it to be on 6 nights a week like it used to be

  10. This is a very wise idea. It was just too much show and in grave danger of wearing out its welcome.

@Izobel2 Stripped means a show is run in instalments (usually five) across a week. For instance, Neighbours is “stripped”, while Packed To Rafters has single weekly episodes.

  11. WTF!!! I love the fact its on everyday!!! just like masterchef, this will suck if its less than the usual 6 days, dont forget most days during the week are only 30 min eps, they have so much footage and they should use it
