Matt Smith made a spirited appearance at the UK’s National Television Awards in this awards clip.
For those of you who are fussy about the Whoniverse, this marks Matt Smith’s first appearance as the Doctor in 2011.
And in related news, Hugh Bonneville is to make a guest appearance in the next series of Doctor Who as a “pirate captain.”

Doctor Who: The Ritalin Generation. That is what the new show is like. And it’s awful.
It’s just not a Doctor Who story without Ben’s inane comments.
Did you really think he would win? It would be akin to Hugh Grant winning an Oscar.
Thanks for the Doctor Who fix… can’t wait for the season to begin!
This awards clip is just brilliant!
A real crime that he did not win … from someone who has watched the show since 1975, I say that Matt Smith is the best Doctor ever … he is just perfect!!
I love them both too (Matt Smith and Benedict Cumberbatch) and I agree Madame Tango about them cancelling each other out. Same with Sherlock and Doctor Who.
Cancelled each other out Sarah.
It wasn’t bad for an awards show opening!! Loved the Ant and Dec bit!
Pity he and Benedict Cumberbatch missed out.
