Underbelly telemovie trim for NSW

Legal proceedings in New South Wales will force the Nine Network to make adjustments to its Underbelly telemovie Tell Them Lucifer Was Here.

Legal proceedings in New South Wales will force the Nine Network to make adjustments to its Underbelly telemovie Tell Them Lucifer Was Here.

In an ironic parallel with the first Underbelly series, which was withheld in Victoria due to a pending legal case, the case will see Nine air two versions of the film.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight a “specially prepared” version of Lucifer would be broadcast in New South Wales, but declined to detail whether scenes would be cut, re-filmed or re-voiced.

Last September Nine had planned to hurry the film to air but reversed that decision just as quickly. A pending legal case then left question marks hanging over the project.

More recently, Nine has been forced to edit its Synopsis of the crime, removing several names:

One cold Saturday night in August 1998, two Victorian uniformed police on a stakeout in the suburbs were shot dead by the two serial bandits they were hunting. The murders sent convulsions through the entire police force. The resultant investigation under the direction of the extraordinary Detective Inspector Paul Sheridan was the biggest in Victorian history.

Meanwhile there are DVD promotions for the 3 telemovies to be available in early March.

But in New South Wales only two are being promoted for sale, mirroring the banning of the first Underbelly DVD in Victoria.

Nine is widely tipped to be running all three Underbelly Files telemovies on Monday nights in February, with Lucifer expected on February 7th.

It features Brett Climo, Jeremy Kewley, Todd Lasance, Ditch Davey and Don Hany.
