Comic Relief in the UK featured a slew of TV stars sending themselves up, and a new sneak peek of Chris Lilley's Angry Boys.

Comic Relief UK was staged on Friday night with a slew of television, music, sports stars giving their all for Red Nose Day.

It famously sees stars sending themselves up mercilessly. This year included contributions from Doctor Who, The Inbetweeners, Upstairs Downstairs, Pineapple Dance Studios, Outnumbered, Masterchef, 24 Hour Party People, The Apprentice, Axis of Awesome, Harry Hill, Ricky Gervais, Alan Partridge, Stephen Fry, Take That, George Michael, and former PM Gordon Brown.

As promised, it also included a new clip from Chris Lilley’s Angry Boys.

  1. I don’t find the Angry Boys bit all that funny. But as everyone else says, the James Corden Smithy sketch is hilarious. And what, no mention of the Peter Kay Geraldine McQueen and Susan Boyle parody duet??

  2. It would be nice to see an angry boy that is perhaps Ja’mie’s boyfriend – Ja’ mie being one of Lilley’s strong characters, whereas the twins seemed to be one of the weakest. Done well and very spot on but just not very funny.

  3. Apparently the Angry Boys clip was broadcast after 1am which doesn’t fill me with confidence. It felt very much like We Can Be Heroes Again. Hopefully the series tries do something a bit new with the characters. I’m assuming it will air once Adam Hills finishes.

  4. While I can understand the reaction to the Angry Boys clip, you have to remember this is just two characters from the series and that Chris Lilley will no doubt being saving the best gags for the series itself so I’m gonna wait for the series itself. That clip was kinda average but with the Sims, there is only so much you can do with them.

  5. I thought the final clip of “Smithy Saves …” was 100 times funnier than the Chris Lilley one. I for one would never have thought George Michael taking the mickey out of himself, Loved it.

As for Chris Lilley’s new show, sorry, I just don’t get ‘balls’ hunging out of pants a hilarious thing in life. Just my humble point of view …

  6. @effdee
it must be easy to sit in your ivory tower (guessing you have never come up with a creatively original idea in your life) and dispense criticism?!?
the guy is a genius – one of a minority in the current Australian television landscape – and we should support him for harnessing both BBC and HBO (once again guessing they have a little more insight than your beautiful self) to produce what will no doubt be an international success.
    keep hating!

  7. Thanks for that Angry Boys clip, it has confirmed my belief that it’s will be just more of the same old stale boring lowbrow stuff repeated yet again!
Now I know I have no need whatever to watch any of it to find out when it airs.

I don’t know how the hell the ABC has sunk to such a level… 🙁

  8. I liked the Chris Lilley video but totally agree that it’s almost exactly the same as was seen in his first series. He should’ve collaborated with a few different people or come up with an totally new idea I reckon.

Love The InBetweeners boys and am looking forward to their upcoming film.

  9. I’m huge fan of Chris Lilley and watched both We Can Be Heroes and Summer Heights High. But everything I’ve seen from Angry Boys is just so average! It just feels like the same gags from WCBH and SHH is coming off stale and dull.

I would have liked him to do something different rather than stereotyping different subcultures and groups. How about a Curb Your Enthusiam sort of show with just one memorable character? Or a Frontline sort of show lampooning a particular industry? Why the need to dress up and do a bunch of different characters yet again?

I’ll still watch the show and I hope that it’s funny. But I still think he could have gone a different route…
