‘Hey Dad’ scandal: civil case threat

Former child actor Sarah Monahan intends to commence legal proceedings against the man she alleges abused her during Hey, Dad!

The Hey, Dad! scandal, in which a man is accused of child molestation during the series run, may end up in the courts as a Civil case.

On A Current Affair last night former child actor Sarah Monahan confirmed she intends to commence legal proceedings against the man she alleges abused her during her years on the hit sitcom.

“There were a lot of people who knew and a lot of people who had the power to stop it and a lot of those people need to be taught a lesson,” she said.

Monahan intends to broaden her action to the show’s producer and the Seven Network, claiming that others were aware of what was going on.

“I was sure that they knew because everybody knew. It was all about them making their money and the best way to hurt them is with their pocket book. Go after their money,” she said.

The scandal, which broke nearly a year ago, led to a NSW Police investigation which has interviewed more than 100 people but so far has not resulted in any charges being laid.

“They can’t tell us how much longer it’s going to take or if it’s even ever going to result in charges,” she said.

Since making her allegations Monahan says she has received hundreds of emails from other abuse victims.

The scandal was one of the biggest stories in the industry in 2010.
