Oprah still loves Australia -honest.

Oprah Winfrey has issued a statement to qualify some comments made about feeling empty after her Aussie visit.

Oprah Winfrey has issued a statement following some reports that she had concerns about crowds during her visit to Australia last year.

In Oprah Behind The Scenes she also said she felt a sense of emptiness after her visit to Melbourne.

Today she qualified those statements:

“When I say I love Australia, I mean what I say…I LOVE AUSTRALIA — it was one of the most life changing, mind expanding, once in a lifetime extraordinary experiences for all of us, and I would never want any of my comments taken out of context to make it seem otherwise.

“I have so many great memories. The Reef was breathtaking, Sydney was spectacular, and I was mesmerized by Uluru and so glad I went there. I was overwhelmed by the response of the people of Melbourne and was honored to meet the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, and to feel the welcoming energy of 10,000 people in Federation Square.

“I was touched by their warm reception and only wished I had done more to create a deeper connection with them that day. My visit to Australia was the trip of a lifetime for me, my staff and our 302 guests that traveled to your beautiful country. We will never forget it. And I can’t wait to come back.”

As if we ever doubted…

  1. Thanks jb looks better now.

Im glad tht Oprah did get talked into going to see Uluru though. I suppose if I was told to go to a place that was hot and full of flies it i’d be put off but glad to see she was grateful she went.

It would have been stressful with all the logistics involved and her schedule. Im waiting for the boom of american tourists that were meant to come after the episodes aired.

  2. lol relax people. It was a joke. I’ve been to Melbourne once and i really liked it. Only problem with Melbourne is it’s in Victoria and full of Victorians. (another joke, relax)

@catherine. A-u-s-t-r-a-l-i-a. There ya go. Forgive me for my left hand typing the s before the u. Fast typing tends to do that.

  3. JB please dont speak on behalf of australia. Melbourne is a nice city and I have been there numerous times. Also learn how to spell the name of your own country.

The thing is she had to expect that thousands would show up and I dont think they would have cared they she didnt give them much. They would be happy they got to see her in person. Oprah has to realise that she doesnt always have to be this speaker that motivates people.

I still cant get how she found Gillard so hard to pronounce. I know she is our PM and getting the name right is important but it really isnt that hard to say.

  4. Who’s made a big deal about this? I read her comments. She felt “empty” because she felt she should have given the Melbourne crowd something more than just “hi”. And given the country she comes from I’m not surprised she felt a little uneasy about her walk along the Yarra with GillARD.

  5. LOL at Dan and JB. I like Melbourne, I’ve visited many times and always really enjoy it, but I must admit I don’t get AFL, Hey Hey or Eddie Overkill, either.

  6. poor Oprah, i guess she didn’t realize stalking & assassinations aren’t a national past time like back home …if i was a famous person in the US of A i’d be nervous alot too.

  7. i have been to melbourne twice both times for prisoner reuinons and it seems like a nice place however they do seem to like wierd things the AFL hey hey its saturday and Eddie overkill

  8. She had issues with Melbourne. Doesn’t everyone have issues with Melbourne… No biggy Oprah, the rest of Asutralia don’t like Melbourne either.

  9. I think the comments about the crowds in Melbourne and her feelings about that have been taken a little out of context. She said that she was frightened by the size of the crowd and that she had real security concerns. I suppose she feared a crush or stampede or something like that. When I watched the Melbourne segment of her shows here, I definitely noticed that she did not look comfortable doing the stroll along the Yarra with the PM. I think that she was a bit freaked out by the crowds there.

  10. It’s nice to know, in these dire and uncertain times, that our cultural-cringe remains as strong, intact and driving force as it was all last century.

Seriously… An O on the coat-hanger? What is up with that?
