Renewed: Episodes, Shameless (US)

More good news for Nine as Episodes with Matt LeBlanc wins a renewal.

More good news for Nine as Episodes with Matt LeBlanc wins a renewal.

Showtime has renewed the series in which LeBlanc appears as himself in a comedy about a British TV series which suffers a poor US remake.

But it isn’t clear how many episodes of Episodes have been given the thumbs up.

Meanwhile the US adaptation of Shameless (which received mixed reviews in its Atlantic translation) has won a second season of 12 episodes.

“The viewer loyalty and critical acclaim that has met both Shameless and Episodes since their January debuts makes it clear that these two brash and sophisticated series are burgeoning hits,” said Showtime entertainment president David Nevins.

“(Shameless writer) John Wells is carving out a tone that is truly unique in the television landscape—equal parts drama and comedy. And Episodes marks the universally embraced and hilarious return to television of an inspired comedy triumvirate: Matt LeBlanc, and creators Jeffrey Klarik and David Crane.”

Production on both series will begin later this year.

Episodes will air on Nine this year.

  1. @Craig – c’mon, you know that Nine’s definition of fast-tracking is to play a show within 3 months of its broadcast. I’m hoping they’ll start it before Easter.

I also agree with others that’s it’s not really a Nine show but hope it does well enough to maintain whatever horrible time-slot they give it. Perhaps it would be a better fit for GO!?

  2. Episodes is too mediocre to succeed on Nine. Most of Nine’s successes are complete garbage (inc. laugh track), and it’d have to be really, really good to succeed outside of that. And it’s not. It’s remarkably average, a few laughs each episode, but almost every joke is so obvious in its set up. No surprise given the crap the writers previously penned.

  3. I have just started watching episodes and really enjoy it but I am surprised that it received a renewal as I thought the ratings for it both in the US and UK were nothing to write home about.

  4. Isn’t it wonderful how 2011’s “the Channel to Laugh At” can dedicate the airways to bring us poorly Ozites more wonderful American humour.
    Life is great…

  5. Yeah agreed, channel nine is the wrong place for Episodes. It is a Great show, really satirical but too much so for nine. ABC should have pounced on this one.

  6. Great news. Loving both these shows. At first i didn’t think Macy cut it as Frank, but i’ve changed my tune. He’s quite good.

I really don’t think Episodes will rate that well on Nine. There’s no laugh track so people won’t know when to laugh. Strikes me more of an ABC show.

  7. I thought Nine promised to fast track Episodes? Well S1 is finished in the US so where is it, ditto for Mr Sunshine and Not in Cleveland, they are both underway in the US but nothing from Nine yet.
