Gallery: Royal Wedding

Kate Middleton was the centre of attention as colour, history, royalty and religion took centrestage in London.

Britain turned on a grand ceremony for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Full of colour, history, royalty and religion the ceremony showed that Britain loves tradition and can turn on a show when it matters.

Kate Middleton was the centre of attention as she ended life as a commoner and was elevated to nobility.

The dress that the world had been waiting to see was amix of ivory satin bodice, Victorian corsetry and lace, the creation of designer Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.

Prince William was resplendent in full military regalia as he took his bride, a future Queen of England.

Westminster Abbey, alive with trees, hats and Church of England  glory, was a venue full of tradition and family memories with thousands of crowds lining the streets outside.

  1. Thank you for posting those wonderful photos. Kate was most definitely a serenely beautiful bride, she is a true English rose but I personally think she doesn’t have the exquisite “X-Factor” that Diana had. Early days yet, i guess, no doubt we’ll see a lot more of the lovely Princess Catherine and I may well be proven wrong about her. Her gown was glorious, i was not disappointed, she looked absolutely beautiful, as did her sister. The princes looked like true fairytale princes in their uniforms – just lovely. The ceremony itself was glorious, you just cannot beat a church wedding. i loved the language of the ceremony, the prayers and reading and mostly, that stunning choir. The music was out of this world. The Abbey is such a beautiful structure that I can’t think of enough superlatives to describe it and i loved the avenue of trees on either side of the aisle. I watched Seven’s coverage from 5pm right through the evening. it was great, i’m not surprised they won the ratings.

  2. Just to make it clear to people…you can carry on all you want…but GEM was not in native HD. It was an upscale!!! The only native HD broadcasts in oz were Sky News on 201 and UKTV on 214.

  3. I watched channel 7’s coverage; it was pretty good, i refused to give nine a look. The wedding itself was beautiful; and william and kate are just gorgeous together 🙂

  4. I only watched a bit of the GEM coverage and it didn’t look any clearer on my TV, I’d say the best was SkyNews and UKTV and I don’t have Austar in HD (but my TV is for FTA) I’m on the said that Nine upscaled their SD signal, the telling sigh was the Nine logo in the bottom corner and no GEM logo or HD anywhere.

  5. I don’t have Foxtel anymore, however, Gem’s coverage was definitely HD, the way the HD image appears does change a little depending on the cameras being used, lenses etc.

As for the commentary, it was poor, especially when they were claiming to be the most experienced team in their promos, only to mistake some Egyptian looking person for Dodi Fayed, who is not alive anymore, and then mistake the same person for his father Mohamed Al-Fayed.

  6. *** Chaser Alert ***

As of midnight today, ABC iView has uploaded the pre-recorded bits of the never aired Chaser’s Royal Wedding. Very cheeky of them! Spread the word… But don’t let that word get back to the UK. 😉

You’ll get used to the opening theme music after the first two short videos, but that’s because some are rated PG, G, or my fave skit which was the M-rated ‘consummation’ video.

  7. Jason i recommend you see an optometrist. GEM was showing upscaled SD. To see it Full HD you can only see it on Sky News HD and UKTV on Foxtel.

  8. You’d have been a fool if you weren’t watching Gem’s coverage, the only feed that was in high definition, especially if you have a HD TV. ABC News 24, the only other HD channel broadcasting the wedding seemed to be showing a standard definition feed.
