It follows on from her work and feaures some wonderful access to these rare primates in Rwanda, all of which are the last of their kind.

Mountain Gorilla is narrated by Patrick Stewart.

Mountain gorillas and humans are alike in so many ways. Their stories mirror our own experiences of life, from sibling rivalry, single parents and clashes between fathers and sons, to fading leaders and young upstarts.

This series, narrated by Patrick Stewart, follows this charismatic species across the three countries that make up its home: Rwanda, Uganda and the war torn Democratic Republic of Congo.

In episode one, the largest gorilla family in the world is starting the perilous journey down to feed on fresh shoots of bamboo. The dominant silverback will have his work cut out keeping them all safe, especially those closest to him. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Rwandan volcanoes a young gorilla has been deserted by her mother.

It airs 7:30pm Sunday on ABC1.

I had the pleasure way back in the 90’s of being amongst a group of 8 gorillas who made The Virunga National Park DRC home,being within a couple of metres of a fully grown Silverback was quite an experience. Wonder what happened to them whenever I see TV footage of the carnage that has happened in that part of the world in the last 10-15 years.Seems like this doco maybe going to the same area so will have to give it a view.

  2. I agree Polar Bear should have been on ABC instead of 9 – why do they let commercial channels have quality programming when they obviously do not know what to do with it.

  3. Thank goodness it’s on the ABC, i was worried for a second it would be on 9 & they would do the same thing they did with the Polar Bears.
