Writers’ Fellowship relaunches under Denton

The Australian Writers Foundation with Zapruder’s Other Films will launch the Kit Denton Disfellowship, previously known as the Kit Denton Fellowship

The Australian Writers Foundation (AWF) with Zapruder’s Other Films will launch the Kit Denton Disfellowship, previously known as the Kit Denton Fellowship.

The fellowship was created in 2007 to honour the work and memory of Kit Denton, father of Andrew Denton, and a respected member of the writing community.

The competition is being relaunched in its fifth year as a Disfellowship, because winning it may mean that ‘your nan disowns you, your neighbours shun you and the shock jocks call for you to be locked up’.

According to Andrew Denton, “We are hoping to attract strong, exciting, subversive ideas; a project of exceptional quality and innovation that will make for great Australian television, film or new media”.

The competition aims to find ideas of substance, intelligence and purpose that will take viewers outside their comfort zone and to attract writers with talent, tenacity and courage to tell their story.

The Kit Denton Disfellowship is a grant, with legal support, worth $30,000 to help get a pioneering idea written for screen production.

In addition to Zapruder’s other films it is supported by Animal Logic, FremantleMedia Australia, Hopscotch, GNWTV, Princess Pictures, Shine Australia and TressCox Lawyers.
