TEN to launch 2012 slate in August

2012 is still a fair way off but TEN is planning on announcing its key shows as early as next month.

It’s getting earlier every year.

Network TEN will launch its 2012 programming slate in August, a full month earlier than last year, which was itself a month ahead of the preceding year.

In a statement to TV Tonight, Chief Programming Officer David Mott indicated the network was ready to roll on its next offerings to advertisers.

“We are excited at our depth of new content both domestic and overseas for 2012 and the last quarter of 2011 hence the reason why we are going earlier. We have much to talk about,” he said.

National Sales Manager Kylie Rogers added, “The August preview of our 2012 schedule will assist our newly integrated sales force, Ten Connect, to capitalise on the positive response to our recently announced multi-channel, cross-platform approach to sales.

“We have our 2012 schedule locked away, and our Sales team is keen to start talking to agencies and clients about our plans for next year as soon as possible.”

A mid-August launch will put the network well ahead of its competitors in terms of unveiling its content, but each network plays its own strategy here.

  1. My predictions for Ten’s lineup in 2012:

Masterchef, Junior Masterchef, Celebrity Masterchef, So You Think You Can Masterchef, Masterchef Christmas Special.

  2. Lachlan had stated in his presentation at the half year analysts hook-up, that there was a ‘brand rejuvenation’ for TEN scheduled in August. Coincidence?

  3. I’d say this is the earliest date for a full advertiser launch for any whole network, since the 1989 mid year reboot for Ten (which likely saw launch events for advertisers in late June-early July 1989).

I’d say this is to get Masterchef advertisers on board, but who knows what will happen when Warburton starts on 1/1/12.

  4. They made a big mistake in canceling Inside Out, their only drama in many years that had some potential. Now they are just screening low rating dramas to meet their drama quotas with little regard to what people want. Therefore I have no interest in what they have to offer in 2012.

  5. Why bother? Shows will be axed before they air here.

Like Ch 7 and Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour. It’s been axed in the US after 13 episodes.

  6. A new online catch-up service would work wonders for TEN, I think. Most of the rights to content appears to be there in the existing service, and surely redesigning a website wouldn’t cost too much. It’s not a pleasant service at the moment–the videos are split up into parts and there are lots of advertisements.

  7. Heres the major problem “launching” in August 2011 for 2012. All the new US shows that TEN will acquire won’t even be on the air yet. Could get cancelled beforehand. Why not wait until October at the earliest. I think its a stupid idea. Where’s Don’t Stop Believing? Oh thats right it got canned before it even got off the ground.

  8. Great idea! Bit like US upfronts.

I always wondered why Australian networks are so secretive of their new schedules.

Please Ten fast track shows from the States.

  9. Well unless TEN have finally changed their mind about how they treat their audience in the manner of giving every show a fair go, using appropriate timeslots, and returning their Australian made reality shows that suited the channels demo (the shows being Australian Idol, So You Think You Can Dance Aust., and Big Brother Aust.) they will continue to fall behind Seven who do all those things (e.g. not moving shows to different timeslots unless they have been axed, kept it’s Aust. reality content at its target demo, etc.)

  10. Have they got enough local drama points to get through 2011? From what I recall they were still going to be short even with the return of Rush. Talking of Rush, I would have expected some promos for it by now.
