Audience tix: The Joy of Sets

Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee's new show, which looks at television's good, bad and fabulously misguided, is getting ready.

The stars of the now-defunct radio show Get This, Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee, are busy with their new television show The Joy Of Sets, which looks at television’s good, bad and fabulously misguided.

The former TV Burp host and the ABC chat host will front the new series being produced by Zapruder’s Other Films for Nine.

Written and hosted by Martin and Kavalee, The Joy of Sets is being called an affectionate and funny journey through the world of television. Each episode will deal with a different part of the television universe.

The show indicates it will be releasing tickets sporadically so follow on twitter @zapruders to see when new tickets are available.

It will be recorded in Sydney at Global Television on Fridays from August through until October.

  1. I was in the Northern Territory, watching Imparja (run by those thugs from the Channel 9 scallop industry) when I saw an ad for The Joy of Sets.
    This is dizzy stuff folks!

  2. Kevin sounds awful. I’m basing it, partly on his inability to spell ‘basing’, but mostly on his very very very very very very very very overdone use of the word ‘very’.

  3. Uh-oh, Ed Kavalee. Second only to Mick Molloy as ratings poison. I’m betting it will go the way of Ben Elton’s show. This is not the sort of program Nine does well, sounds like it is more suited to Ten’s audience.

  4. Bet they’re doing their own version of “Charlie Brookers Screenwipe”

Which if you like TV, is a brilliant show from the UK.

In that he has segments about different aspects of TV, old and new. Exploring genre’s ect. Very Funny.

  5. Looks like the same haters who said ‘I give Can of Worms two weeks’ (and then were never heard from again when proved wrong) have moved over to this thread.

  6. The last line should read…
“It will be recorded in Sydney at Global Television on Fridays for the first 3 weeks of August then cancelled.”

  7. Wooo! At last… the show is looking like it will finally get a chance on air 🙂

They need the “Pelham 123” (aka Beasley theme) for their intro music .. and of course random comments about Snato Ghauro & On the Buses. 🙂

@steveany…. totally feel the same about the missing third member of the Get This crew as well

  8. I think it needs more sizzle and cut through.

Seriously though, this will be only shining light to come from the Nine stable this year. “Written and hosted by Martin and Kavalee…” thank god. As long as the great minds at Nine keep their snouts out of the tray and don’t interfere this should be a winner.

  9. This sounds like they’re taking the idea of Ed’s lamented, and borrowed, TV Burp, and turning it into something more substantial and suited to their talents.

    I approve.

But will there be anything for Snato Ghauro fans?

  10. Hmm, doesn’t really feel like a 9 series to me… TEN, ABC or even SBS maybe… but, I dunno seems like too niche a show for a 7 or 9. Then again, I havent seen the programme, so it may be a good fit.

I’ll be watching, if only cause my sister loved ‘Get This!’ which had both Tony and Ed in it.

  11. Finally!! Whoo hoo! This is going to be great for this self confessed Aussie TV history addict. Bring on the archival golden moments Tony and Ed!

  12. Genuine, delicious antici…..pation!!
    T. Martin is a genuine talent and E. Kavalee’s not too bad either.
I was a big fan of ‘Get This’, and it’s a tragic thing that poor Richard Marsland couldn’t be part of this show – the three boys were a great team.
