Myf Warhurst gets Nice in new ABC1 series

Exclusive: Myf Warhust will feature in her own 6 part documentary series looking back on her youth, from the bedazzler to Copperart to Kenny Rogers crushes.

EXCLUSIVE: Myf Warhurst will feature in her own documentary series, Myf Warhurst’s Nice, on ABC1 next year.

It will mark a return to the screen in her first project following the end of Spicks and Specks.

The six-part series will see Warhurst undertake a nostalgic journey through popular taste and cultural icons, to learn what they say about us as a nation.

Since appearing on Spicks and Specks and on radio, Warhurst has become widely popular with audiences. But it’s a far cry from her early years as an isolated country teenager, desperate for an ’80s spiral perm.

Even though she admits to being a little ashamed about her early life experiences Warhurst will be looking back on her youth, embracing past cultural icons, and celebrating all the things that are ‘nice’. The series will ask whether ‘nice’ things tell us more about who we are than we are prepared to admit.

Warhurst’s memories include such personal highlights as her embarrassing family portrait, the humble dim sim, Copperart, and an unhealthy obsession with cheesy love duets.

“I’m digging out the bedazzler, putting on my oversized koala wool knit jumper, and travelling the country to rediscover some of my favourite things, and meet some of my teenage heroes along the way,” she says.

“Many hilarious (and occasionally dubious) things have shaped who I am, so it’s time to give them credit. And as far as life dreams go, I never got to marry Kenny Rogers so this is the next best thing.”

The series will also include some comic reconstructions along the way.

Amanda Duthie, ABC TV Head of Arts and Entertainment said, “We are thrilled to present Myf’s nostalgic trip through pop culture and design. The series promises to be an honest, informative and thoroughly entertaining celebration of suburban pleasures and everydayness.”

Executive Produced by Kath Earl and Kevin Whyte and Directed by Aaron Smith, the series now goes into production for a premiere in 2012.

  1. This is great news and a fantastic concept. It sounds like a very clever reflection on Oz culture for the Gen Xers. I can’t wait.
For those that think Myf is mediocre – you have clearly missed the point of why people enjoy watching and listening to her. For the others that really believe Myf “bombed” on radio, clearly you are commercial station listeners and probably should stick to watching Dancing with the Stars and listening to whatever god awful station it is that you throw your loyalty towards.
Me, I’m waiting in anticipation of some genuinely interesting entertainment from someone that represents the real Australia.

  2. Alxx says: I am so sick to death of people who aren’t me making shows based around themselves. I am so much more interesting than anyone else. Why can’t I have a series? Wahhhhhh! Baby wants rattle!

  3. God i seriously don’t see what the ABC sees in this woman..
Mediocre to put it very diplomatically – she bombed on radio and i’m sure she’ll bomb on TV without spickes and specks!!
A few years back ‘ The Age’ called her the next ‘It Girl” Had to laugh at that statement!!

  4. I am so sick to death of the these self indulgent ‘personalities’ on the ABC making shows based around themselves. I really don’t care to see or learn any more about these people, and can’t understand why anyone else would want to spend more time sitting around watching these people wax lyrical about how great their lives are/were/will be. Aspirational? Nope. Boring! Live your own life.
