Ringer wins full season, more Prime Suspect

Ringer is picked up for a full season and Prime Suspect has an order for six more scripts.

Good news for TEN with Ringer picked up for a full season.

The CW drama starring Sarah Michelle Gellar opened to 2.8 million viewers in the US and a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic – the CW’s largest audience in its Tuesday at 9 p.m. slot in three years. Its most recent effort drew 1.7 million and a 0.7.

The series has also performed better than its predecessor, Life Unexpected.

Meanwhile NBC has ordered six more scripts for Prime Suspect starring Maria Bello.

Thus far the series has been struggling in the ratings in its post-comedy lineup slot, averaging 4.9 million total viewers.

Much like Nine, NBC added repeat screenings in an effort to increase its chances with audiences.

  1. Prime Suspect is a gripping drama. It is realism. It is life of cops. She gets beat up and she looks like it. Few comments on her “outfits” are ridiculous. Who gives a crap. She is a cop and not a beauty contestant. The stories keep my husband and I glued to the tube. There is no channeling surfing. Maybe, keeping it on a Sunday or a Monday would be ideal. Maria Bello has Mariska Hargitay in the running.

  2. @doris – yes, Ten are going to show it in the middle of Rush tonight!

The writing for Ringer will need to improve dramatically to retain its audience (or me anyway). The whole first ep has been done many times before in film and TV, including the predictable “twist” at the end.

  3. I’m loving the show too, glad it’s been renewed and can’t wait to see more.

@ toriwannabe there’s nothing wrong with 7’s afternoon movie. You obviously didn’t see the one today called “Someone is Watching” starring Stefanie Powers. Great stuff! Better than all the hyped up Hollywood movies in the cinema any day.

  4. If it can stay on the air with just under 2 million in the states then surely TEN can keep on the primary channel if it continues to get over 400k here…

and yes I do understand 2 million for the CW is a reasonable figure..

  5. Love Prime Suspect and am yet to watch Ringer (PVR is full of shows atm with everything being fast-tracked). Good to see more crime shows are being renewed this year then last year (e.g. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour, The Chicago Code, Detroit 1-8-7, The Defenders, etc. all axed last year after one season)

  6. Ringer is my favourite series airing on TV right now and episode 5’s ending was shocking…it’s getting better every week!

Glad to see it get a full season!!

  7. I like Ringer judging from it’s first outing. Prime Suspect I am not so sure about. It just doesn’t live up to the Helen Mirren original and because it follows the same story lines, it is hard to be interested.
