Sunshine coast chef Matt Golinski, who has been a regular chef on TEN’s Ready Steady Cook, is fighting for life today following an horrific house fire in Tewantin.

Four people are thought to have died in the fire, which destroyed the house in Jacaranda Place.

Neighbours have told how they were awoken by screams for help and a large bang from the house at 3.30am.

15 firefighters worked for more than an hour to bring the blaze under control.

In a statement, the Department of Community Services said a man, thought to be in his 40s, was taken to Noosa Hospital in a critical condition.

He was later transferred to Nambour General Hospital and is believed to have third degree burns to more than 40 per cent of his body.

  2. So very sad……even their dog perished. Poor fellow lost everything. I never knew him but loved watching him on RSC my thoughts and prayers are with him and his lost girls……a terrible tragedy…..

  3. I use to watch Ready Steady Cook and Matt was one of my favourite Chefs, having lost our youngest son at 23 to an horrific car accident caused by a negligent driver at the wheel in 2003 and never having got over it, I cannot imagine losing what Matt will have to deal with. This is a terrible tragedy that my husband and I could not even comprehend. This is just an enormous loss for dear Matt, as well as him having to deal with his own trauma to try and recover from those horrific burns. My husband and I are so blessed with another 2 sons, we are so fortunate.
Our prayers are definitely with Matt now and in the coming days ahead.
We are just so sorry for him, why does this happen to nice people like him, we cannot stop thinking about him.

  4. Pull those memories from years gone and remember the laughter, the good times. Tears will be shed, anger expressed and the hurt will eventually fade…. My heart goes out to you. You will never be alone in any of this.

  5. This would have to be the saddest story i have heard all year , and right at Christmas time. There saying it may be candles or christmas lights that may have caused the fire, so please everyone blow out the candles and Turn off all the christmas lights before you go to bed , we do not need another tradegy such as this.

  6. just dont understand why this happens to people, whats the reasoning behind it all ??????? theres nothing one can say that will ease his pain , a pain he will never ever recover from, god please bless this poor man

  7. Such a heartbreaking story, not only will he be dealing with the phyical pain but also emotionly.. Wishing you a speedy recovery Matt & my thoughts and prays go out to you & your family. RIP to your wife & beautiful girls <3

  8. This is the saddest thing I have heard in a long time. I know of Matt from Ready Steady Cook and remember him always slipping in comments about his wife and children, he always sounded like a proud husband and father. This devastating event could not have happened to a nicer person. If he survives, I hope the memories of a wonderful Xmas day with his family remains. I am shattered that this has happened to such a beautiful soul. I truly hope he can get through this. So sorry for your loss Matt. RIP…
