If you missed Santo, Sam and Ed's Sports Fever and want to know what all the fuss is about, it will be replayed on 7mate.

If you missed Santo, Sam and Ed’s Sports Fever and want to know what all the fuss is about, it will be replayed tomorrow night on 7mate.

The sports results might feel a few days old but at least you’ll be in on the gags.

  1. @DF, I think that was the joke, no offence intended but they were poking a bit of fun at the Australian Baseball joking it was the “lead” story in sport this week… Again if you don’t understand their subtle humor then I don’t think this show is for you.

  2. @ Nathan. Whilst that wouldnt be a bad idea theonly problem is the Afl season which will be broadcast Live on 7mate at 7.30pm eastern for Nsw Act and Qld.

  3. It was a good first show, but it lacked some of the energy and fun of the SBS series. I guess the lack of sleep during the World Cup helped with the spontaneity and relaxed vibe of the previous incarnation. Hopefully once the boys get back into the swing of it Sports Fever will pick up. I hope they add more sketches and funny clips, and less Channel Seven cross promotion – the Seven News sports journo added nothing to the show apart from spouting a bunch of sports headlines. If I wanted to hear that I’d watch the news, not a panel show!

  4. peter B: I watched as well, and after Ed made mention of the Australian Baseball League very very early on in the piece (albeit a smart remark), I watched hoping for further discussion as there’s a playoff series being player currently between the Melbourne Aces and the Sydney Blue Sox (Who rox? Blue sox!)

Apart from a passing mention of this series at the end of the show (1st game won by the Blue Sox 7-5 last night), nothing.

Is it wrong of me to hope for a wee bit more sport discussion during a sports show? The basketball guest seemed like a nice guy but his appearance on the show seemed very indulgent.

Also, is Ed Kavalee becoming the Ted McGinley of Australian TV?

  5. As a football fan, who watched Cup Fever every night, and one of the thousands of football fans, who helped make Santo, Sam & Ed a success I found this show absolutely Awful. Part of Cup Fever’s success was the inherent familiarity the guys had for football/WC and the audience, too, was knowledgeable and enjoyed their subtle humour.

The Ch 7 “rent a crowd” didn’t get the humour and the guys seemed to be uninterested and lacked any depth of knowledge about the underlying sports.

Apparently, ratings were 236k, so I won’t be surprised if Ch 7 axes the show after 2-3 more weeks.
