Penny Wong: “I never wanted to be the first.”

VIDEO: On ABC2's Kitchen Cabinet, Penny Wong tells Annabel Crabb she never wanted to be the first Asian or gay female in Cabinet.

Tomorrow night Penny Wong appears on Kitchen Cabinet, Annabel Crabb’s ABC2 interview and cooking hybrid.

Crabb joins Wong for dinner at her home in South Australia, which has some lovely local views. If this show was ever made anywhere other than Australia I’m sure there would be more security about where the politician actually lives -it seems quite identifiable here.

Wong discusses her early life, what drove her into politics, the moment on Q & A when she was asked about toeing the party line against gay marriage.

Crabb also asks her about being “the first Asian member of Cabinet” and the first “openly gay female member of Cabinet.”

Wong says she prefers to be known for her work, but then opens up….

Kitchen Cabinet airs 9:30pm Wednesday on ABC2.

  1. I love this series so far. Annabel has picked interesting, insightful & quirky pollies. Not that Annabel isn’t quirky in her own innocent David Lynch type outfits. Florals are so in (1950’s).Last weeks episode with Nigel Scullon was hillarious and interesting, about a politician that I didn’t really know that much about. This is what the ABC does best. Original, niche viewing.
