Spoiler: American Horror Story’s second season

Updated: More detail on what's coming in Season Two of American Horror Story. Spoilers.

Spoiler: There has been speculation for some time but now it’s official….

Jessica Lange will return to Season Two of American Horror Story as a different character.

Season 2 of the Ryan Murphy / Brad Falchuk drama will take place on the East Coast of America this time, and will involve a horror institution.

Murphy’s vision for the series has always been an anthology, so it undergoes major changes this year.

‘Constance Langdon’ won’t return, but Lange will feature as the star of the season, which resumes production in mid-October in the US.

“We have designed the second season of American Horror Story completely around her character,” Murphy told EW.

“Last year Jessica came in with Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott. This will really be the Jessica Lange show so I’m very excited about it. We are designing this amazing new opposite of the Constance character for her. She and I have spoken about different things. She has a lot of ideas, and has a lot of input into her character. She told me some things she has always wanted to play as an actress. She’s a great collaborator and a great friend.”

Murphy also said he signed three more actors to return, but won’t reveal their identities just yet.

I have no idea how the second season will resolve those final scenes we saw with Constance and baby Michael, set three years after the demise of the Harmon family. But I do have faith all will be revealed…

Updated: Deadline reports Zachary Quinto will return as one of two male leads, but no word on his character.

Hollywood Reporter adds Evan Peters (Tate Langdon), Sarah Paulson (medium Billie Dean) and Lily Rabe (Nora Montgomery, one of the original owners of the house) will return.

“It’s very fun to take a group of actors that you love and say, ‘come play again,’ ” co-creator Murphy. “Every year in the series is about a different haunting, so everybody will be playing the opposite of what they played, which is fun.”

  1. Making it up as you go along sounds like a recipie for disaster to me, so many shows start out great with a thought out and planned story. Then when you fly by the seat of your pants and then just attempt a sloppy tie together at the end the drop in quality is noticeable. Like how Glee went from being a story with well chosen songs that delivered value to the plot to just being what songs do we feel like doing this week and what weak excuse can we use for doing them.

  2. Jessica Lange was fabulous as Constance and I think Jessica will play a great role as a different character in season 2 American Horror Story.

  3. I agree. I don’t think the ending of season one will be “resolved”, simply because I don’t think there’s any need for a resolution. It’s one of those horror style endings like Halloween III – Season Of The Witch. It doesn’t need resolution, because the ending is that evil will survive.Equally, I don’t want a second season hampered by season one – as much as I loved the first season, the second season is a different story and should stand alone.

  4. David, I figure all that stuff won’t be resolved? It wouldn’t really make sense to ‘resolve’ it with Lange playing a new character at the same time.
