Seven rejects Craig Thomson claims

Craig Thomson asserts that Seven reporters were hovering underneath his bathroom window while his pregnant wife showered, but Seven rejects the claims.

“What you don’t expect is Channel Seven reporters hovering …hovering underneath the bathroom window… while my pregnant wife is having a shower,” a tearful Federal MP Craig Thomson told Parliament today.

He made the remarks in a speech to Parliament, following gruelling media stories about alleged misuse of Health Services Union funds.

“There is a responsibility, a great responsibility in reporting. You need to take that seriously.”

But Seven has since denied claims made by Thomson.

“This is the first time any of us have heard such an allegation,” it said in a statement this afternoon.

“We have spoken to reporters who visited his home and they vigorously deny any such behaviour.

“All they did was to knock on the front door. In the first case, it was answered by a woman. On the other occasion, there was no answer. In both cases, they left as soon as it was obvious no-one was home or wanted to speak.”

Thomson also told Parliament there were some very good journalists, naming Paul Biongiorno from TEN News, Laurie Oakes from Nine News, Latika Bourke from ABC News and Kieran Gilbert from SKY News.

  1. Local news are ambulance chasers, so they probably were hiding under the bathroom window with their microphones. And even if this guy is lying and did what is claimed, maybe they should look at all the other MPs receipts and bank statements too. I’m sure he’s not the only one.

  2. As someone who has had a camera crew enter my home uninvited and start talking to my sister-in-law who had just lost her two children I can relate to this happening.
At the same time, I think he would be very careful to not mislead Parliament, which is a hanging offence.
Talk about trial-by-media by the few below.
And for those niave enough to think a phone can’t be cloned – it’s very easy.

  3. I found it surprising that before his speech all the news outlets would dedicate a large portion of their reports to this story, but yet today no story lasted more than 30 seconds.

  4. If they only just knocked on the door, the fact that they did so shows the overly predatory behaviour of the media. There are more tactful avenues to pursue comment, such as e-mail, rather than stalking private homes. Even if it didn’t happen, it shows that the reputation of the commercial networks is low due to their poor presentation of current affairs and news over the years.

  5. Certainly wouldn’t put it passed Channel 7, or any media outlet. The media stooping this low, should be no surprise to anyone. It’s become the norm.
