Matt Smith sticks with Dr Who until 2014

The Time Lord isn't going anywhere just yet...

Matt Smith has confirmed he will remain with Doctor Who until at least 2014.

Smith told The Sun that writer Steven Moffat had convinced him to remain with talk of his plans for a “brilliant” season.

“His first episode sounds great,” he said.

“It hasn’t been written yet but the idea is as brilliant and as mental as you’d expect from Steven. So there’s a lot to look forward to.

“When Steven was going to pitch the next season to me not long ago, he said, ‘Are you ready to cry?’”

Meanwhile the show reaches its 50th Anniversary next year.

“We want to do 50 years — and everyone that’s been associated with the show — justice. We want to go, ‘Look, world, here is Doctor Who. It’s 50 years old, a science-fiction show, still going and going from strength to strength’.

New episodes are set to premiere in the UK soon.

  1. The ABC Whovians website has pointed out that on the ABC website’s program guide, the whole of Sunday August 26th ABC1 is completely blanked out. Every other ABC channel has listings, and there are listings for Saturday and Monday on ABC1. Just not Sunday. Go and have a look for yourself:

Make of that what you will.

  2. As we know Tom Baker played the role for some 7 years, length has nothing to do with it. I can’t wait to see more of the show and Matt Smith soon. Do we know when Doctor Who is returning here?

  3. @Someone – so, because your favourite doctor only did three series (three and a half, actually) you want to restrict other actors to the same number, even when you think that they’re doing a good job? You don’t know whether you’ll even like the next one.

  4. @Someone Actually Tennant had four Series as the Doctor, three regular series and the Specials in 2009 and he wanted to leave, he wasn’t forced out or was short changed.

  5. I think Matt Smith is great Doctor. Loking forward to 2013-14. I enjoy Tennant he made the show to continue the way had to develop, like everything all doctors must have their day, and new one come alongs and changes everything.
