Liza Minnelli will appear in the second season of US drama Smash, playing herself in an episode, titled “The Surprise Party”.
The Broadway star will sing an original song with Christian Borle written by the show’s composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement, “Liza Minnelli is the essence of a multitalented, singular show business sensation, particularly for her extraordinary contributions to Broadway.
“So what could be more fitting than to have her legendary talent on a show that celebrates a world Liza has dazzled for decades? I had the pleasure of working with Liza when we restored her landmark television special Liza With a Z at Showtime, and to see her artistry up close and personal is a thing to behold.”
Smash returns for its second season in the US in February with Bernadette Peters returning plus Hairspray‘s Nikki Blonsky, Rent‘s Jesse L. Martin, and Jennifer Hudson, and Sean Hayes joining the cast.
It screens in Australia on Foxtel and on Seven.

Thank goodness SoHo has first run rights. Can you tell me David if Foxtel will keep first run rights with Grimm ?
Yes.
Can’t wait for Season 2. Season 1 was just the beginning and with any luck they have rid all the dead wood on the show. Liza will be awesome in this not to mention the other celebs they have guest staring.
Will Seven or Foxtel have first run rights to season 2 David?
Confirming SoHo will have first run rights next year.
Season Two sounds so much better. Will Foxtel still have first run rights?
