OK David, we did not miss it, but fairly shattered by the ending, what happened to Happy Endings, I thought viewers preferred those?
Another query—-we bought the DVD ‘Downton Abbey —Christmas Special (2012). A Journey to the Highlands’ ,thinking this was a supplement, but it was the last two episodes shown here. Was it a BBC Christmas Special, hardly a cheerful ending ! Pretty deceptive advertising if you ask me.
DA Xmas special was split into 2 episodes by NBC for international markets. It aired last Xmas in the UK with its tragic end. Writer Julian Fellowes has said when a cast member who is family wants out there is really only one exit, but when it is staff it is easier for them to depart.
