The ABC has been found to have breached its captioning obligations during At the Movies and Gruen Planet.
Media watchdog the Australian Communications and Media Authority found episodes on 22 August 2012 (At the Movies) and and 17 October 2012 (Gruen Planet) were not adequately synchronised with pictures on the screen and contained inaccurate and missing captions.
Under the Broadcasting Services Act 1992, national television broadcasters must provide a captioning service for television programs broadcast during designated viewing hours (currently 6pm to 10.30pm), and are integral for viewers who are deaf or hearing impaired.
ACMA has been developing a captioning quality standard to provide clarity for broadcasters and viewers alike, on the standard of captioning service required. The Standard will be released shortly.

Does this apply to multi channels as well? A lot of 7TWO’s content in the evenings seems to lack captioning.
