TEN Chief Operating Officer resigns

More changes to TEN exec team as Jon Marquand exits and Stuart Thomas is appointed as General Counsel.

2013-07-31_1230Network TEN Chief Operating Officer, Jon Marquard, has resigned after 16 months in the role.

Marquand first joined TEN in late 2011 as Commercial and Legal Director before taking over as Chief Operating Officer after the resignation of Melbourne-based Kerry Kingston.

There is little detail on the circumstances of his departure with a briefly-worded statement from TEN CEO Hamish McLennan.

“We thank Jon for his contribution to the company,” McLennan said.

His exit follows the recent departures of chief sales officer Barry O’Brien and chief marketing officer Tony McMaster, but is no doubt a further indication of Hamish McLennan marking his stamp on his executive team.

More positively, TEN has also announced the appointment of Stuart Thomas as General Counsel.

Thomas is a former Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs and Chief Operating Officer at Macquarie Radio Network, and a former General Counsel at Nine Network.

“Stuart is one of the best lawyers in media in Australia and we are very happy that he has agreed to join TEN,” said McLennan.

“In his new role, Stuart will be responsible for TEN’s legal and commercial arrangements. He will play a key role in our continuing sport and content rights negotiations.”

Thomas aded: “I am thrilled to be joining Hamish and his team at a time of clear momentum at TEN. The company has been very active in recent months and has demonstrated a real commitment to building its sport portfolio and other new content.”

He begins on August 8th.

  1. If you read in between the lines it seems that Hamish is cutting an personnel he believes were hired inappropriately during one of the many poor CEO’s before him. So far his actions have been louder than words (with him actually saying or promising very little until after he has done something), with gradually increasing ratings and expansion of TEN’s sports catalogue so this can only be a positive thing, especially given the bio of the replacement.
