Renewed: American Horror Story

American Horror Story will return for a completely new story of 13 episodes in 2014.

2013-11-07_1026Scary news today that American Horror Story has been renewed for a fourth season.

The show from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk will return for a completely new story of 13 episodes in 2014.

But it remains unclear which cast members will return.

“Put simply, Ryan Murphy is a master television producer,” FX CEO John Landgraf said. “Time and time again he reinvents the form. What he, co-creator Brad Falchuk and their producers Dante Di Loreto, Tim Minear, Jennifer Salt, James Wong, Brad Buecker, Jessica Sharzer, Douglas Petrie, Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, Alexis Martin Woodall and the entire production team and cast responsible for the American Horror Story franchise have done is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year, they create a riveting and brilliant new miniseries. AHS: Coven is the best yet, and I have no doubt that the next instalment will be even better.”

The first three episodes of the third season have bettered both 2011’s Murder House and 2012’s Asylum among total viewers and the key adults 18-49 demo.

This season, Coven is averaging 7.74 million total viewers and 5.46 million in the adults under 50 demo — up 77 percent and 67 percent compared with season one.

“Every year, she says, ‘OK, that’s my last one.’ But she’s already committed to the fourth series. I can see American Horror Story going 10 years, 12 years, 15 years. I think it’s limitless because it re-energizes every year, and I would love for Jessica Lange to be part of it every year,” he said. “All I’ll say is, Jessica Lange has always wanted to play a Marlene Dietrich figure, and now she gets to.”

The series airs in Australia on ELEVEN where it’s all but …..buried.

  1. season three is brilliant – last night’s episode was fantastic, with some very solid horror direction. They’ve managed to score pretty decent horror directors on the show, and last nights episode was the strongest of these season

(still doesnt beat the brilliant episode 5 in season two directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon – check it out, its fantastic!)

The cameos and repeating cast make this terrific, great to see Denis O’Hare again (even if he doesnt say anything), Frances Conroy (red-head witch) is terrific and Jamie Brewer has been a real treat too!

  2. I’m so excited by this. American Horror Story is my favourite show and it’s such a shame it doesn’t get the recognition or ratings here in Australia that it deserves.

  3. Master television producer? Please! Murphy is no doubt a creative individual who creates some very great ideas for shows, but he is one of the worse showrunners in Hollywood. He loses track of story line and destroys his characters with ridiculous motivations. Worse still, whenever he is interviewed he seems completely clueless about the show, often providing information that doesn’t make sense or hints at things that don’t actually occur.

  4. roaringdave: “Never give up on this show after one episode. It reinvents itself every week.”

This is true; I never knew there were so many varieties of cheese.

  5. @roaringdave. i’m in agreement with dshan about this series. I have continued to watch because i am of a fan of the series but so far the storylines are so messy and all over the place. it should all have been set in the past and not been brought forward – the modern day setting with the girls brings to mind the ‘charmed’ tv series and thats not a good thing.

  6. Good news, although it’s hard to imagine there is any aspect of the horror genre left uncovered. Mind you, I thought the same thing after the second season.

  7. Woo! I’m loving this season. Much better than the last. Monday at 9.30 works great for me too. Walking Dead and then AHS. Q&A on catchup on Tuesday cos there’s nothing that interests..

Also, Jessica Lange is one foxy older lady. Rawr.

  8. I think that AHS is a terrific show in fact Monday nights on Eleven is probably the best night of TV with Supernatural and Haven to complement AHS.
A great “themed” night by TEN, there should be more of them.

  9. I hope the next season is better than the current one, it’s awful. Gave it away after the first episode. So disappointing after the last, Asylum, season which was excellent.
