The Railway Man – Writer /Director Jonathan Teplitzky. Stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth.

The Book Thief – While subjected to the horrors of World War II Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. Under the stairs in her home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents. Stars Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.

Saving Mr Banks – Stars Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. Author P. L. Travers reflects on her difficult childhood while meeting with filmmaker Walt Disney during production for the adaptation of her novel, Mary Poppins.

Frozen – Stars Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff. Directed by Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee. Fearless optimist Anna teams up with Kristoff in an epic journey, encountering Everest-like conditions, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf in a race to find Anna’s sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.

The Great Beauty – Jep Gambardella has seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades, but after his 65th birthday and a shock from the past, Jep looks past the nightclubs and parties to find a timeless landscape of absurd, exquisite beauty.

American Hustle – stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper Jennifer Lawrence Amy Adams. A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner Sydney Prosser is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – Stars Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Kristen Wiig. With the 70s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy, returns to take New York’s first 24-hour news channel by storm

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty- Stars Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig. A day-dreamer escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, he takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined

Inside Llewyn Davis Written and directed by Joel and Ethen Coen. A week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.

Stars Oscar Isaac Carey Mulligan.

12 Years a Slave – In the pre-war United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Michael K Wiliams.

Philomena – A world-weary political journalist picks up the story of a woman’s search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent. Co-writer/actor Steve Coogan, and starring Judi Dench. Directed by Stephen Frears.

Plus: Magaret and David’s top films of the year.

  1. I love them doing this. Although some years I used to miss out because they change the day and time so I couldn’t watch. So I’m glad they’ve stuck with the same start time as well as day. It means loyal viewers can watch it.

    That said I’m also grateful for the repeat because it is a much better experience. Plus I want to see if I can watch Stephen Fry beforehand. So I’ll try to catch the repeat. I’m not fussed about that kind of thing. Instead I love the opportunity if you miss stuff you can possibly catch it later. Thank you to the ABC. As well as Margaret and David. Plus the team making it.
