2014-02-28_2254Dateline continues to look at Manus Island, next Tuesday set to reveal footage from inside detention centres with a number of whistle-blowing revelations.

“I hope they get dysentery… I hope they are sick…that’s what they deserve.” – Alleged comment made by a security guard.

Dr David Corlett, from the multi award-winning SBS series Go Back To Where You Came From joins the Dateline team this week for a special investigation.

Working with Corlett and his extensive contacts, Dateline has obtained vision from inside the detention centres plus dozens of photos and documents. Combined with new allegations from whistle-blowers, the new material paints a comprehensive picture of the ongoing dysfunction and mismanagement of asylum seekers in Manus and Nauru.

Video material obtained by Dateline includes overcrowded accommodation in the centres and unsanitary toilet and bathroom facilities.

Whistle-blowers allegations made to Dateline include:
· Women being denied underwear and sanitary items for extended periods of time.

· The Department of Immigration regarded incidents of self-harm as a “normal” occurrence, given the environment in which the asylum seekers were held.

· Security guards taunting asylum seekers as they mimic shooting them.

· A complex case management plan, developed by all service providers was overridden by security resulting in a near fatal self-harm incident.

· A key service provider tasked with the welfare of asylum seekers, fabricated case management notes.

· A key service provider employed staff with little or no experience in handling complex asylum seeker matters.

Tuesday, 4 March at 9.30pm on SBS ONE.

  1. Well I’ll be watching. Sadly only 110,000 people watched the previous episode. When a show like inside story can rate well, it say a lot about the Australia public, they would rather be outraged by things that have happened in the past then the present.
