Seven invests in Russell Crowe movie

Seven has invested in a Russell Crowe movie project: “The Water Diviner".

2014-03-26_0902Seven West Media and Seven Group Holdings is investing in Russell Crowe’s movie “The Water Diviner”.

The film written by Andrew Anastasios and Andrew Knight sees an Australian man travel to Turkey after the Battle of Gallipoli to try and locate his three missing sons.

Tim Worner, CEO of Seven West Media, said: “This project is a special one for Seven.

“The original script came to us through Hopscotch some time ago and it was our view that it was one of best scripts for an Australian film we had ever read.

“It is a brilliant story set against the backdrop of one of the most important stories in Australian history. It is an incredibly moving tale and while not giving too much away we felt its production as a major movie is just the most powerful way of conveying to all Australians the special place that Gallipoli has in our past.

“We are really thankful to Hopscotch and also to now be associated with both Russell Crowe and Ratpac on this project. All of them have fantastic track records as really strong storytellers.”

The film is produced by Fear of God Films and Hopscotch.

  1. @Mr J – don’t know the timing, but they’ve been filming since December 2013. The original filming schedule has them in Turkey this month (March).

But, you’re right, they are hoping to get this out in April 2015 (is my understanding).

  2. So it’s not a telemovie, it’s a movie movie? It they wanted to time this with the 100th anniversary they are cutting it a bit fine, these things can spend years in pre and post production.
