Tonight on NITV’s Awaken Stan Grant hosts a debate on whether Australia is ready to vote for Constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians.

Is Australia ready to vote yes to a referendum?

This Awaken special, hosted by award-winning Stan Grant and filmed in front of a studio audience, features a panel discussion of Indigenous leaders and constitutional experts on what progress has been made to advance the discussion on Constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians.

Attitudes to a referendum are divided, with some suggesting that it is a waste of tax payers’ money. Key findings of Reconciliation Australia’s recent Reconciliation Barometer indicate that over 85% of Australians believe the Indigenous and non-Indigenous relationship is important. A newspoll survey revealed that 75% of Australians support constitutional reform to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and four years ago the Australian Government has established the Expert Panel on Constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians.
