Airdate: Cheese Slices Brazil

LifeStyle FOOD’s ‘King of Cheese’ (their words), Will Studd, is in South America for Cheese Slices Brazil later this month.

This special is part of the seventh season of the Cheese Slices series.

In the one-hour special, Will continues his journey unearthing artisanal dairy delicacies, travelling to South America to explore the global resurgence of raw milk cheese making, and to discover Brazil’s bootleg raw milk cheese trade – where mysterious cheese dealers make and sell illicit cheeses that are smuggled into big city markets (despite the threat of jail time) – because many rural families have no other means of income.

Mouths will water as Will visits the Canastra Mountain region, to watch (and savour) the production of some of the most famous cheeses in the state; São Paulo, to visit renown chefs who use raw milk cheese in their dishes, as well as raw cheese vending points; and Rio Grande do Sul, in the southern Gaucho Mountains, to follow up on the production of the well appreciated Serrano and Colonial cheeses.

Born in London, Will Studd migrated to Australia in the 1980s and has since proven to be our best cheese connoisseur. He has been a key influence in introducing a number of different cheeses around the globe to Aussie shores, as well as educating the world on some of Australia’s best kept cheeses. Studd is also an acclaimed author on all things cheese.
