Cartoon Network has confirmed a series revival for The Powerpuff Girls, following a re-imagined special which screened in May.
An all-new television series produced by Cartoon Network Studios will roll out in 2016.
Debuting in 1998 and running for 78 episodes, The Powerpuff Girls was created by Craig McCracken and centres on Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup –three sugar-coated superheroes whose mission in life alternates between going to school, fighting crime and, of course, winning at hopscotch.
It has earned two Emmy Awards along with five nominations, leading to a feature film in 2003, a 10th anniversary special, and a re-imagined CG special, The Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed, which even featured Ringo Starr.
