2014-07-05_1804On Wednesday ABC News 24 will cover the result of the Indonesian election, hosted by Jim Middleton and Beverly O’Connor, Live from 10pm.

On July 9, Indonesia votes in an election of importance to Indonesians and to relations with Australia. 190 million eligible voters will choose between the two men vying for the presidency. And the race is tight. Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo went into the campaign as the clear favourite, but over the last couple of months retired General Prabowo Subianto has gained ground.

Whoever wins, Australia’s future relationship with the new leader of our largest neighbour will be vital.

Jim Middleton and Beverly O’Connor present Indonesia Votes on ABC News 24, getting the latest from ABC correspondents on the ground; George Roberts and Greg Jennett will be live from the candidate headquarters and Helen Brown will be joined by a panel of experts in the Indonesian capital.

They’ll provide expert analysis of both candidates and their policies and take a look at some of the nuances of the Indonesian electoral system. The broadcast will include live crosses to the Indonesian community that calls Australia home, as they celebrate or commiserate the outcome in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin. It will also follow the reaction on social media as it’s posted from Jakarta, the Twitter capital of the world.

Indonesia Votes airs on Wednesday July 9, 10pm – 11.30pm AEST on ABC News 24 and live across the Asia Pacific region on Australia Network.
