Steve Hooker has quit as a commentator for TEN’s Commonwealth Games coverage after his wife, runner Ekaterina Kostetskaya, received a 2 year ban for drug use.
Russian athlete Ekaterina Kostetskaya received the doping ban after a world championship race in 2011.
Fairfax media reports TEN’s Matt White announced on air yesterday that Hooker would return to Melbourne to be with his wife.
“Steve’s priority is his family and he has left Glasgow to be with his wife, Ekaterina, and son Maxim. He has delivered brilliant commentary for the Games, and Network Ten fully supports his decision,” said a TEN statement.
Kostetskaya and the now-retired Hooker, met at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and married in 2012.
Olympic gold medal winner Canadian Donovan Bailey will join TEN’s commentary team for the remainder of the Games.

10 should have insisted he stay for the duration, thus killing the story. He presented well and is not responsible for the alleged actions of others.
This happened 3 years ago and they choose now to announce this, why not wait a week?
The odd thing about the announcement from the IAAF is that it comes more than 18 months after her ban commenced. I wonder whether Hooker’s role with Ten was the catalyst for this being made public now.
@ Bella…my thoughts also….
Shame there has been a few not so great issues that drew headlines away from our great athletes.
Would like to see a Canadian athlete cover the Comm Games for the first time on Ten.
That’s a shame. I really liked Steve Hooker’s commentary.
