Daniel & Ryan win The Amazing Race: Aus v NZ

Nice guys finish first with $250,000 as their prize.

TARAUSNZ‘Nice guys’ Daniel Little and Ryan Thomas from NSW have won Seven’s reality series The Amazing Race: Aus v NZ, pocketing $250,00.

Daniel, 29, and Ryan, 33, raced from Argentina to Los Angeles to the final Pit Stop on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, defeating Sally Yamamoto and Tyson Smith from Perth who came second and Ashleigh and Jarrod Jende from Melbourne who placed third. Both runner-up teams were awarded one million Velocity Frequent Flyer Points from Virgin Australia.

While filming wrapped some time ago, now the boys get to share their good news.

“It’s absolutely exhilarating! It’s such a great feeling and also a huge relief to have made it not only this far but also to take out the top spot,” said Daniel and Ryan.

“We have told no one so this is going to be a massive surprise and party for all of our family and friends. Especially our lovely ladies who have no idea that we won! It will be great to finally share the whole experience with them.”

“We want to help our family and friends who have supported us throughout our lives and journey, and definitely do some more travelling.”

This was the third season of the locally-produced show, but the first produced internally by Seven.

  1. I agree that it was a better season than expected!
Also glad at the winners, but I loved most of the Kiwi teams as they were more likeable.
Also agree that 7 programmers have no idea!
Wish there was a 4 week limit to promote an upcoming series, since the prolonged advertising is irritating!

  2. “I really want a season 4 but 7 treat the show like (censored) while compleat and utter (censored) is glorified by the network , maybe us TAR fans can get a petition going to bring it back (it did well in timeshift and if it was given a genuine chance, it could have been a hit for the network)”

    So agree!
    Great idea re the petition.

  3. I was supporting the body builders but I at least it wasn’t Jarrad & Ash that won.

Roaringdave – I watched “Air Canada presents TARCanada” (joking with the name) to this winter and they were bad with product placement (although they had a pretty good product placement challenge with the Mentos in Paris that knocked out the twins)

  4. I’m so glad they won! I know it’s just a reality show but Daniel and Ryan seem like genuinely lovely guys and they really deserved to win the money, I was on the edge of my seat last night! I really hope they do another series but I won’t hold my breath

  5. @Garry I heard it’s starting 3rd Oct.

The US version does a lot of product placement too although I reckon they do it more successfully those travelocity gnomes are cute 🙂

  6. “And who can’t eat a hot dog? It’s not as though it was fried tarantulas!”

    Ha!
    Wooz.
Jarrod was unintentionally hilarious, especially with his trademark ” Bloody New Zealanders!” every episode.
Daniel and Ryan deseved the win – picked them early on as they were both very clever/cluey and played fair.
Yes, lucky those hideous haircuts were worth it in the end.

The older NZ couple and girlfriends were both really sweet and very likeable as well.

Really enjoyed this season but agree with others here about the poor/ late scheduling.
Yes, Channel 7 certainly didn’t do it any favours.
It’s one of thir better shows and deserves preferential treatment above some of the other crap they endlessly promote.

  8. If you think product placement was bad in this, have a look at The Amazing Race Canada S2. Great version of the show, but enough with the ‘Scotiabank Gold American Express Card’!
I really liked Sally and Tyson this this series. Enjoying it for what it’s worth, never arguing, just having a good time! And who can’t eat a hot dog? It’s not as though it was fried tarantulas!

  9. That’s just the cold hard realities of reality TV in Aus. Someone has to pay for it and I say, great work Virgin. Lets hope they come on board again….

Anyone got any ideas if the new US series is going to be shown on Oz TV?

  10. This season was much better than I originally expected I’m really glad that Daniel and Ryan had won. They were the team I was supporting from early on. I hope they bring back another season but with the treatment of scheduling leading to low viewership I don’t expect it to return. It was though Seven was hoping this would fail.
The only thing I didn’t like was the commerical like product placement of guessing flight paths for Virgin Australia, that was the most obvious form of placement in the entire season. At least Dan and Ryan won that too.

  11. If they do another series (which is probably unlikely) I hope they get ActiveTV back to produce it. Yes it was a good season but it didn’t come close to the first two that ActiveTV were involved in and I don’t remember product placement being as prevalent in the first two either. The mini challenge they did on the plane where they had to try to name as many destinations on a map where Virgin flies to was product placement at its worst. Daniel and Ryan deserved to win especially after getting those Friar Tuck haircuts.
