#5SOS named [V] Oz Artist of the Year

No Grammy nod but 5 Seconds of Summer score the annual Channel [V] gong for the second year running.

2014-12-07_1648They missed out on a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, but their rabid fans were determined to ensure 5 Seconds of Summer won the [V] Oz Artist of the Year, for the second year in a row.

The talented teens defeated 49 other acts for the title, including finalists metalcore outfit The Amity Affliction and the multi-talented Troye Sivan.

Rebecca Batties, Foxtel General Manager for Music and Head of Digital, said “The [V] Oz Artist of the Year competition is Australia’s longest running publicly voted music award continuing for the past 17 years. Past winners have included Australian music royalty Silverchair, The Veronicas, Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, and many more.

“This year, almost one million votes came through Channel [V] online to choose the winner and we’re thrilled it’s once again hit-makers 5 Seconds of Summer.”

5 Seconds of Summer – made up of Sydney-siders Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin – launched onto the music scene in 2012. The group has been making some serious noise locally and internationally with their hit ‘She Looks So Perfect’ single charting No.1 in the UK and US, in addition to their debut album 5 Seconds of Summer reaching No.1 in Australia and in 12 other countries.
