Jeremy Clarkson: Top Gear “was a great show and they f***ed it up.”

Defiant Jeremy Clarkson lets rip during a charity event appearance, predicting his sacking. Warning: Language.

Warning: Language

Jeremy Clarkson has indicated that he expects to be sacked from Top Gear.

At a charity event in London on Thursday night he let rip during an on-stage appearance, saying the BBC, “f***ed themselves…It was a great show and they f***ed it up.”

“I didn’t foresee my sacking but I would like to do one last lap,”he said.

“So I’ll go down to Surrey and I’ll do one last lap of that track before the f***ing bastards sack me. I’ll be a bit tearful when I do it, but f*** it, let’s do it.”

Ouch. Public statements admonishing BBC execs would surely have sealed his fate, unless he privately knows it already.

Late this week BBC issued a brief statement: “Following last week’s suspension of Jeremy Clarkson, Ken MacQuarrie is now considering the evidence and will report to the Director-General on his findings next week. Once this has been considered, we will set out any further steps.”

  1. The show will go on. Whether that’s on the BBC or not. If I was Jeremy, I wouldn’t be able to work somewhere where I know I’m not fully respected. Especially as part of their most popular show and the most widely watched factual program in the world.

  2. I dont watch the show….and dont know much about the man…except what I have read recently….
Apparently he came into where they were staying 10Pm at night after a full day…wanted a steak…was offered cold cuts and salad…tell me a man you know who would be happy with that…
Also he suffers pain…needs 2 hip replacements…I have had one…so can relate….his Mum died last year….his wife is divorcing him….and she use to basically organise his whole life…
Not making excuse….but….’walk a mile in my shoes’….

    1. The producer who allegedly was struck could have the same issues. I also know pain as you describe. I also have to admit some bias over violence after having been belted a few times by someone with a lot of problems. I slowly developed a harder shell when I saw people who had tortured children given leniency because of their own sad childhoods. Somewhere amongst this we must be personally responsible for our conduct and that’s how I feel about Mr Clarkson. The BBC are doing the right thing in terms of duty of care (to both ‘sides’).

    2. The producer was charged with organising a late booking in at a hotel and meal after long filming session, Clarkson asked for steak. The hotel’s kitchen was shutting to the producer agreed to the suggestion of antipasto and a cheese platter instead. In the end the Hotel night manager fried up a steak, probably for a large tip (it’s not like the show or Clarkson are short of cash).

So the producer didn’t do his job well keeping the talent happy. Doesn’t justify abuse and an alleged assault though.

We will see what the BBC says. Though even if they just send him to the naughty step, again, contract renegotiations would be rather fraught.

  3. Clarkson wouldn’t be a nice bloke to work with. He’s definitely got anger problems amongst other issues. The BBC have had to put up his with issues for so long now they’ll have no choice to sack him. It’s just like a bad long marriage thats finally ended in a divorce. Oh we’ll maybe Fifth Gear will pick him up? Then again maybe not.

    1. “Top Gear” and “The Stig” are intellectual property of the BBC. But anyone can make a motoring show featuring a middle-aged buffoon.

Another option is that Clarkson is fed up with the BBC and wants to leave anyway, his contract is up before the next season anyway.

And by publicly stating next time you’re gone the BBC have backed themselves into a corner.

  4. David, is this the video that you intended to embed? None of the quotes you have supplied appear in these two clips (altho’ the gist is there) and, as Dr_Rudi says, there is no coarse language as it has been bleeped out.

      1. Thanks, David! This clip contains most of the above quotes:

  5. Shame he has got the publicity for all the wrong reasons…….but I watch the show for his comments, which I find refreshing. You are right the show will not be the same without him and if it is right then maybe Ten could get in on the act.

  6. This man allegedly slugged a producer because he did not get hot food. How quickly the news media have moved on from this and are flailing about treating this guy like someone who deserves eternal forgiveness. This is really profit vs ethics. Yes, the show would not be the same without him and it’s a very successful series. However, it bothers me that many in the UK would simply sweep the violence under the carpet simply to retain a fictional ‘hero’. If the producer had been female would he be given a harder time? What about if he had slapped a teenager in the audience? He’s not a hero, he’s become a bit of a spoiled brat who needs to recall some humility.

    1. I don’t think it’s been established that Clarkson actually punched Tymon so perhaps we should await the publishing of any findings before condemning him. If Clarkson did punch anyone, it would hopefully be reported to the police.

  7. I’m with Jezza, someone at the BBC has had it in for him for a while and yes they f***ed it up!

If indeed he is sacked next week then the Top Gear brand is dead in the water in the UK, they will have a worthless product and be out millions of Pounds a year. With all 3 hosts contracts up I find it hard to believe Hammond and May will stay with the show.

My prediction (from all I’ve read) is the guys will move to Sky whom is rumored to have offered them all much more than the BBC to form a new show.

Any news on when Nine will be airing the ‘final’ series of Top Gear?
